Hi All,

We always rent from Hertz in SXM. I tried to book online but they only offer expensive SUVs on the website.
Tried to call Hertz 800 reservations number but they do not have an option to reserve international on the phone.
Tried to email hertzsintmaarten@gmail.com in sxm but no response.
Has anyone else had these problems?

Thanks,
Jim

We rented a car from Hertz back in July. They were a little slow in responding, but they did come through and it was a pleasant experience.

Did you go through the entire reservation process and hear back all they had were SUV's? I just looked at the site and they list these https://hertz.sxmrentacar.com/vehicule-guide/ for rent. I usedtem this last may again for a 4 week rental without any selection problems.

Hertz does seem to have their cheapest car left being a mini SUV for your timeframe. $338 per week total charge for your dates of $935.

Alamo, Dollar, Enterprise, Thrifty and National all seem to have cars available for your dates, in the economy price range with total prices starting right at $606 for your stay. So, options are available, just pricier with Hertz.

Thanks Everyone, I'll do a little more experimenting with the reservation process and report back.

When completing the online reservation form (make sure you are on the SXM Hertz site, not the USA site), there's a drop-down for you to pick the size car you want. At the top of the drop-down is their most expensive model so you need to be careful with that. I just made a reservation for next June and received an automated acknowledgement almost immediately. The quote was received the next day. I will say I am a little disappointed with them as, even this far out, they don't have any "Class B" (economy) cars available next June. They quoted me a sedan, which isn't my preference. I also have a sedan for this coming November's trip even though I made that reservation many months ago. I think they are phasing out the economy cars due to the high theft rate but don't really know that for a fact.

Same thing happened to me, Jazz Girl. I prefer the smallest car available but they told me they have none in their inventory.

Yes. When I checked with them for you about the economy size they no longer will have them. They need to update that on their site.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the helpful responses!

As it turns out we had to postpone our trip until 24 January - 9 Feb. Economy cars are available from Hertz then. $685 for 16 nights, liability insurance included.

I had an interesting experience with changing the United Air Tickets that I'll post on a separate thread.

And yes, DM's are ok.

Thanks,
Jim & Laraine

That's very expensive, Jim: $299.69/week. When I have rented an economy (Group B) from them, it's been $145/week. The sedans (Group C) I am renting in November and next June are $160/week. I would question them about that quote.

On the other hand, perhaps it's a high-season thing; I don't travel in high season so that could be the issue.

Thanks, it does seem a bit pricey. We're going to check around some more. In off season we would normally pay about 600 for a month.

I just checked with Hertz about availability for an economy cay- Reina's response was "we no longer rent economy cars for safety and security reasons."
