It's been awhile since we were on the island and looking forward to hopefully returning sometime next spring. We were down there Christmas week just before the pandemic; post Irma. We went to Baie Rouge for the day and posted several pictures of what happened to the beautiful villas. Very tragic. Thanks to everyone here, I found out about the rebuilding dispute with the French government and beach property owners. On the flip side, Raymond is doing time for tax evasion. What about Gus? When both were there, they had beach boys renting chairs out of their businesses. We love Baie Rouge and would like to make a trip back there. Is anyone renting chairs there? Are the villas being rebuilt? My biggest concern, is that Rouge will turn into a Baie Lounge with very limited access if the villas are to be rebuilt and no one opens a business. Has anyone been there lately and can provide insight? Thanks everyone for stepping up.

The beach is amazing and pristine. No vendors so bring what you need. I think no food since They could never provide proffer utilities , toilets and health dept regulations and it’s a government beach. Big parking lot just a few steps to the sand. As I remember I only saw maybe one villa not rebuilt. Lots of gorgeous expensive Villas in that area. .

We have always enjoyed Baie Rouge too. However, when we were there in July, most of the sand at the water's edge was gone leaving it very rocky and difficult to enter the water. We experienced similar conditions at Cupecoy and Happy Bay. Even at the south end of Orient, there was a lot of exposed rock and coral, making going in the water very uncomfortable. I know the sand comes and goes on many of the beaches, but in our experience, this was the worst by far it has ever been at those beaches. Hopefully that was a temporary condition.
