That 747 KLM was a thrill to see, landing and taking off. Yes, I did it when we were real newbies. I video taped her landing over my head and got badly sand blasted. She was so close, when I played it back I could read the Michelin logo on the tires!! In 2016 We had just landed when the fire rescue department was giving her the shower salute!! I found these photos from there site. That would have been cool back in the day, JFK to SXM on her!!
I remember watching it on the internet. I was trying to remember how long ago it was. I looked yesterday for some pics I had taken of the 747 and found these, although they aren't that great.
CaribLee--That KLM blue is so distinctive! I can't find it now, but I took a photo one year at Regatta of the KLM 747 coming in, over top of the sailboats. Wish I could find that photo!
Nice AirFrance pic. Sadly the Boeing 747 (The QUEEN of the Skies) days are numbered everywhere for passengers though she will definitely continue as a cargo carrier. As a total lifelong aerogeek my goal is to get on an A380 at some point before the money people retire that beautiful bird forever.
We travelled through Europe this summer and had a connecting flight through Amsterdam. As our plane taxied to the gate, I saw three big KLM 747s with CARGO painted on the side. I wondered how many of those glorious planes had made the trip to St Maarten over the years. For us airplane geeks, those were the days!
