I first saw some pictures of that on a Facebook post Friday. Going to take a long time to clear that up. I can't imagine the smell with that amount to decompose.

They can build a rocket to go out into space, but they can't find out what makes this happens and how to stop it before it make it to shore???? It's got to be killing businesses all over!!!!

Perhaps I am wrong, but is there anything that can be done, until it actually comes ashore? Obviously, it can be raked, once ashore, but is there any 'boom' or anything that is being used out in the water?? I haven't heard of it, if there is.

I believe there was some talk about some type of boom, but that would like just force the problem elsewhere. Trying to control mother nature is a difficult thing.

At one point there was talk about harvesting the sargassum and converting it to bio fuel. Probably cost prohibitive.

I was thinking of a HUGE tanker with a boom vacuum, but then it wouldn't know the difference between the sargassum and seas life. So that shoots that down.

Would take a heck of a large fleet of tankers. The Sargassum Sea is huge.

I can't tell from that story whether they are collecting it just on shore, or in the water? Glad they are doing something though.

They are colleting it om shore and in the water, loading into trucks and hauling it away. I watched them do it about an hour ago.

There was a picture posted on Facebook that showed Orient encased in a large sea of Sargassum similar to what Cul-De-Sac is experiencing. It was on SXM or Bust which I believe is a private group.

Pretty nasty looking. Pictures I saw showed it as a huge mass floating and reaching out from shore a long way.

Good Grief. Stunning pictures. The 2017 storms, COVID, and Sargassum have been three huge body blows to the Caribbean. My last 2 trips were in 2019 to Caye Caulker Belize and to Barbados. Sat out the 2 big COVID years with testing/masking uncertainties. Going again this December; I will start low key with Cozumel. I miss Anguilla and the BVIs..... Happy travels to all !

For you on Facebook here is a company in Martinique that specializes in Sargassum removal. Looks like they know what they are doing.

Sargassum was just as bad on Orient at the end of August, 1st of September last year. Went pretty much unnoticed since everything on Orient except Cedric was closed for vacations.

How bad was Cul de Sac, to get there? How is Orient at the moment, if you know?

Cul de sac was smelly but bearable. Yesterday Orient was very seaweedy on the beach but pretty clear in the water (at Orange Fever). Not sure about today
