Does anyone have a cab or transport company recommendation to get a group of 6 from cancun airport to resort near playa del carmen?

Lomas Travel is a great local outfit for all things on the peninsula.
I've known the owners for over 10-years, first class folks.

HERE is a link to another good shuttle service. Very reliable and reasonably priced. PRIVATE van from CUN. The driver will stop at the store for beer and other essentials.

I've used both of these for Private transport to PDC. Both had my requested beer (& water) in a cooler, in the van. They have sign for you and you'll roll as soon as you exit the airport, no waiting around for some nemrod who lost their bag.

Last time I was in Cancun (last May) there were Taxis available that were more like large vans. You shouldn't have any problem getting a ride. You might want to make arrangements before you arrive. I just needed a cab for two so it was no issue at all.
FYI, it costs ALOT more for transportation from the airport than from PDC back to airport. Our taxi was $120 US going and $40 coming back. Same car!

We used USA transfers last year from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen.Could not have been easier. Reserved and paid online and was met at the Airport.

Here is another vote for USA Transfers - use their private car service every year for our transport to Riviera Maya!

If you wait until you arrive, the taxis are very expensive, but they will negotiate.

We have used USA Transfers for all 3 of our Cancun trips so far. They have always been outstanding.
