Any of the locals know why so many flights have been canceled the last several days? We are supposed to fly out Saturday and make an afternoon connection in San Juan. Looks like multiple airlines are canceling. Thanks.

The answer I keep getting is pilot/staffing shortage. I'm stuck in that mess right now. Highly recommend grabbing a charter ASAP. Call Island Birds 284 number; do not bother to email or fill out the online form and don't hesitate. The charters are filling too. I called 4 charter companies yesterday to get a flight for today.

We came through STT yesterday, no issues for us but there were a bunch of non-joyous folks headed for Miami who were actually loading when American cancelled- storms. Have to keep in mind this time of year if you route through Miami or Atlanta, it's a dice roll. We came down on Delta 2 weeks ago, back on American with no problems.

American just announced they are basically doubling their regional airline pilot pay overnight in a effort to stem the bleeding. This might lead to some stability in the industry going forward. Piedmont one of their feeders was losing 20 to 30 pilots a month out of 500 total pilots. Near term it might however hurt places like Cape Air, Inter Caribbean, and Silver as pilots jump ship.

Good to hear the companies are waking up. Do you think Cape Air transferred pilots up north, with US tourism booming? I'm wondering, post Memorial Day, if they are busy going to Nantucket and MV.

I can’t imagine the yields are higher for Cale Air in the NE verses the Caribbean. I would think SJU would be a priority. I suspect they are just losing pilots. It’s hard for Cape Air to offer rates that will retain pilots and allow them to make a reasonable profit. 9 seats only generates so much revenue.

Boston to Nantucket, one way, is $369 on a Saturday morning. Cape Air specializes in high yield routes.

468 one way EIS to SJU today. If you have a group going air taxi operations might be the cheaper option.

the charter pilot that brought us back to EIS yesterday indicated the local pilots leaving for higher paying jobs was the major issue for Cape Air, Inter Caribbean, and Silver. He thought Cape Air basically stopped flying SJU to STT and Culebra.
