I haven't heard anything about Walker Mangum for a long time. I'm glad to see some recent information about him.

He now lives permanently on Anegada. Spoke with him last week and he is doing just fine!

I will read this more completely in the evening. Brings back memories. My wife & I started chartering in 1977 with CSY. Anegada and White Bay were a no-go. About 1983 we started chartering with the Moorings. Again, those places were "off-limits" "red-lined". It stayed that way for a long time too. Walker had a lot to do with changing all of that. Thanks, Walker!

Paid $40 to the Moorings in 1998 to follow a "flotilla" to Anegada and become "certified". Here are the directions and map they gave us. Did not get a chance to meet Walker till after they built. ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Misc/i-7gM5T7L/0/63b4c8e8/L/Anegada02-L.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Misc/i-QjKcpxK/0/9e148b87/L/Anegada01-L.jpg)

We’re with Walker and Nancy this week. Please tell him thank you from someone he doesn't know for helping me along the way...and tell him I have tried best to pay his hard work and generosity forward by navigating others to Anegada.

Thanks- great article. We followed a lot of his advice over the years! Not only with Navigation but also some great recipes.

What weather makes it a bad day to go from beyc to Anegada thinking of going tomorrow morning but it’s going to be windy

Horseshoe Reef mitigates the seas. Winds up to the mid-20s make it a lively and fast sail. If you’re on a monohull, reef your sails if you’re broaching. If you’re on a cat, enjoy the speed.

Please reef the cat also! You will go faster and the rig will appreciate it! G

If in doubt, reef before leaving North Sound.
