Well Wednesday wasn’t really a paradise day in part... too much driving and little beach,
Drove to Marigot to get spices at the market and a visor for me to stop glare while reading on beach, stopped to eat at Rosemarys on the waterfront, have been doing this since the 80,s when first discovered it because it’s my namesake, Food was terrible. Snapper was dry, rice was clumpy and wathever else was on the plate was too hard to bite through,
Instead of shopping as planned we met friends from a previous trip, since they had cabbed it to Marigot from Secrets we offered them a ride back, they asked if we wouldn’t mind giving them a short tour of island, her new hubby had never been to SXM. How could we say no.
Spent some time at laPlaya drinking . Hubby the designated driver had Orangina while we indulged. Finally returned to Secrets to drop them off hoping for an invite inside but alas no invite, I also threw out the idea we come another day to spend on the beach at anise Marseilles but they are heading home so we’ll go it alone
Long day! Hubby tired from all the driving and motorcycle passings decided not to go out for dinner so we ate Guadeloupe melon and Gouda cheese with a baguette washed down with a chilled white wine then to bed.
Up this morning to another beautiful rainbow.

Rosemary--I enjoy a yearly drive around the island, but of course I'm not the one driving!! Are you at Horney Toad the whole time? Enjoy!

Carol, We always take a ride around at least once per stay but as you say I’m not the one driving,
We’re at the toad until Saturday then we move to BSV and hubby can’t wait! Tracy couldn’t accommodate us for two weeks this year. When I first asked ages ago she said she wasn’t taking march yet so I guess I waited too long. But having fun chatting with surfermike from TtOL. He’s in the unit next door.
We are enjoying. I only posted my disappointment with the other couple because I really wanted to see inside a room at Secrets!

OK, thanks. I would have liked to have seen a room also. I suspect without knowing, that they don't allow visitors there, unless you go through the office, since it's an a/i. Only a couple more days until Beachside!

Carol, from the outside I think that place looked better when it was leMederian. I wasn’t impressed with the little I saw. Couple did not rave about the food either except to say the buffets are large. Personally, I don’t enjoy buffets.
Off for a swim now.

Rosemary and Carol,
I remember the open air lobby area when it was LeMeridian and I thought it was gorgeous. Sadly, I haven’t read or heard any rave reviews since it morphed and reopened as either Radisson or Secrets.
With regard to AI, while I’m not much of a fan, and particularly not a fan of buffets, we have done them on first-time trips to new destinations and usually ended up being happy with the decision. We did this at St. Kitts a long time ago, Bermuda - on our honeymoon, and yes - I can actually remember that far back - and the St. James Club in Antigua and each time we were glad we chose AI. But that said, we didn’t feel totally licked in and it also didn’t stop us from trying a few local spots on each island.
Respectfully,
pat

Wasn't your shared meal, with the indigenous people at the first Thanksgiving, a buffet? 😁

When we were at Anse Marcel last may we walked down the beach to Secrets. Walked the whole property and wasn't that impressed. We talked to some guests there and they said it was just OK. Not like other Secrets resorts.

My husband and I were at Secrets Puerto Vallarta which is supposed to be really nice. I am not a fan of all inclusive but we need to stay a couple of extra days after several airline cancellations in January so we stayed at Secrets just to try it. The place was pretty and it was nice to have everything at your finger tips with an all inclusive but the food was not great and the cost was high in general so will probably not try that again. In a place like SXM I can't imagine being at an all inclusive and missing out on trying all the amazing restaurants and other beaches.

Yes, the main reason I go to SXM is the ability to drive to various places around the island.

Nice meeting Rosemary and Don at the Horny Toad. They had some great stories about St Maarten. Hope you enjoyed the Toad and have fun the rest of your trip. Take good care of Betsy. We miss her already!
