We would like to spend our 1st night at Cooper Island (5/11/22). We're going to try and reserve a ball through BoatyBall, but if we can't do you think there would still be one available around 3PM in May?

On a Wednesday it’s possible. Getting there by 3PM if you are a noon start might be iffy. If a sleepaboard no issues. Try and reserve one with boatyball. You should have access to high speed internet and be able to reserve one. I am nearly 100% on getting a boatyball with high speed access and near zero with cellular internet.
