Spending the night between flights at the Airport hotel. Getting in late afternoon. What options for food are there at the airport or close by? Thanks for any suggestions. If there is something at the airport, we would want to check in and then grab something so would have to be before security area…

My suggestion would be to just jump in a cab and go to Isla Verde, which is very close to the airport. There are many restaurant choices there. Our favorite restaurant is called Metropol.

Or stop at the tapas/wine place in B concourse and carry some local food with you. It's across from Margaritaville. Great PR food options!

Glad to hear things have got better in the food dept at PR airport..they couldnt have got worse. We used to fly thro there all the time and the restaurant on the way to American Eagle (back then) was the the worst of the worst. I had flown redeye from LAX and was starving. I sat, the only customer, at the bar as four staff chatted. Finally one deemed to attend to me. I ordered a BLT. Ten minutes later I got an LT..no bacon! When I pointed this somewhat serious lack of the main ingredient of BLT in the sandwich the waiter told me, indignantly, that they were out of bacon..and charged my full price for my "LT" That, having stuff stolen from baggage and Am Eagle flying away was the end of going thro SJ..STT only since then..At least the BLT at " The Petite Pump Room" actually features bacon!

Honestly, other than the sushi place in Atlanta, "One Flew South", it's probably my favorite airport dining option anywhere. It might be just that they pour my wine glass as I walk up to the bar, but it's the little things on a long travel day from West coast....

Any issues leaving the SJU airport for lunch and coming back through security from a Covid perspective? If you are already checked into your flight to the US, can you just go back through security? Do you need to provide vax card and negative test again?
We have a 6 hour layover.

We have a 6 hour layover. technically, you need to fill out the PR safe travel portal and get approval to leave the airport. Will anyone notice if you pretend to be in-transit and go for lunch? probably not but it's a big risk in my mind.

There is a Metropol inside the secure area for the last few years. Haven't tried it, although I have been to the one in Barceloneta a few times, and really like it. Go through security and turn left through the duty free area - it's right there before you even get to concourse C.

We like Metropole. We ate at the airport one the first day it opened post Covid. It was closed recently when we came through, so we went to the place across from Margaritaville.

We ate there yesterday. The Mr. really liked the pork mufungo and I had a nice chicken sandwich. Huge portions. Easy stop on the way to Gate D2 (as in dungeon).
