Will be in Seattle from 09/08 - 09/12. Never been (Seattle and Key West in the same 6 months!)
I'm staying downtown at the Hyatt at Olive 8 for the duration, but would love to check out some of the can't miss things the city has to offer.

Brian: We were there last June.I spent summers in Seattle as a child, but had not been there in a LONG time. We did lots of tourist stuff: the Space Needle, ride the monorail, Pike Place Market. Had the best meal at Maxmillian in Pike Place- moules Marinieres.Yum. Downtown was, hmm, interesting. It was quite a treat to see the unintended consequences of legalizing marijuana. We took a ferry to Bainbridge Island for lunch and a stroll. There are lots of other things in the area- this was all within walking distance on our hotel.

Nutmeg,
Thanks for the ideas. Some of those things I really want to do during my stay. I think I might hit a Mariners game @ Safeco as well. I will continue to do research and share some of the things I'm interested in to see if you have any words of wisdom on them.

The can't miss is going to Pike Place Market, then down to the waterfront. Pike Place is still very Seattle, from the quirky shops to the fresh fish market and all the places to eat and snack at in the area. Very unique. I would start with going there and the water front as it may have you coming back for the next few days if anything for breakfast or coffee.
If you were to be staying the entire 12th I would suggest going to the Sounders game on the eve of the 12th. Regardless of if you like soccer or not the experience with the crowd is probably the second best in the country, next to Portland and the Timbers! (Timbers fan here). The crowd and noise and energy level will be amazing.
I also suggest that you find some local brew pubs. Some of them have pretty good food as well as great craft beer. Two things that we are certifiably serious about in the PNW are our Coffee and our Beer.
If you can do a boat/ferry trip on a nice evening or drive out to Alki Point in West Seattle so you can see the Seattle lights at night from a distance.
Mt Ranier is a bit of a drive, but a pretty drive and it is pretty amazing sight to see. As is Snoqualmie Falls to the north east. If you are into the natural wonders.
Have a great trip, Todd

So I touch down in SEA at 5:12pm. By the time I get my luggage and grab a cab to homebase downtown (Hyatt Olive 8) it will probably be close to 7:00.
Unfortunately I leave at 10:10am on Fri 9/12 so I can't get to the soccer game, though I definitely would have if I could.
Todd do you have any specific brew pubs close to the Washington State Convention Center in mind?
I think I have most of Monday evening open (unless I go to the M's game) and then Tues and Wed open. Thurs night there's a conference party thing so I'm not sure how long that will run.

Pike Pub and Brewery is the only once close by for a Brew Pub. You also have close to you the Tap House Grill which while it is not a brewery it has 160 beers on tap.
If you go to the Mariners game there are several places that are good to stop in for a drink or beer. Pyramid is down in that area and for a bar F.X. McRory's has some fame.
For the most part any bar or pub that you find will have a good selection of beer. Should be good weather that time of year, have a great trip. Todd

Thanks Todd.
I will continue to check all these places out and do some researching. Are any of the "Man vs Food" spots worth getting food at?
Has anyone hit up any of the newly legalized establishments? If so, what's the scene like? Never been to Amsterdam so the whole concept is totally foreign to me.

Yes, the legal outlets are opening this week, at least some of them are. I hope we get some good tax money out of it, and it is interesting to follow on the news.
I do find it interesting, we have people traveling here and talking about the historical moment that this is, like women having the right to vote kind of talk. The legal outlets will only take cash at this point, the banks will not allow card transactions and who knows where all this cash will go as the banks also do not want to touch the money as they fear the legality on a National level.
Interesting to me but "no no no, I don't smoke it anymore, tired of waking up on the floor"!
Cheers, T
