I have traveled to SXM multiple times and most of us assume once we get the approval we are ready to fly. Most of the time when boarding the agents glance at the form and we are ready to board. Not so at FLL with jet blue. They checked the flight number very carefully so if you came on a connecting flight and used the flight you arrived with it was a no go. Imagine coming from LA and be told you had to resubmit the form with an hour left to go. A mistake anyone can make. Also other passengers were not let on the plane because they had no return ticket. They were told to buy a ticket and then cancel it.

Jet Blue has been enforcing the "onward travel ticket" rule for some time, as they should, if their passenger is refused entry to Sint Maarten because they have no onward travel ticket, it's Jet Blue that gets fined and has to fly them back to the US, possibly causing another passenger to be bumped from the flight

That is a good point, regarding the 'return ticket' rule. Last trip we had booked two one way tickets, both on AA. When we checked in, in Miami, I forgot to have the record locator available for our return trip. Honestly, both trips were on AA and I knew the date of our return, and they were booked on miles, so I really think AA should have been able to look it up?? Anyway, I did dig through our stack of stuff and get the return flight info, but it's a good point--have the flight info available for your return trip.

I've never been asked and we always book one way tickets with AA.

We were not asked a few days ago which was good since our return flight had been cancelled literally hours before our departure, we have since booked with another airline a day later to get home. Fun times!!

I frequently use a different airline for departing and returning and never have been asked for documentation of our return flight, but, I also always have it available in my phone in my "Travel" folder because I am aware of the requirement.
Sunday I will be using United (hopefully) for the departure flight to SXM and Delta for the return, We will see what happens....
