So what happens when the boat captain test positive 48hr before departure? ![sad sad](/images/graemlins/default/sad.gif) Guess we will see just how good the trip cancelation insurance really is. Stay tuned.....

Government test or self test? If the latter, I wouldn't report it, because you and your entire crew could be quarantined. If the others tested negative, let them depart as originally planned. Re-test as George recommends, in case you had a false positive. Then look for accommodation and self-test until you get a negative.
The numbers have spiked and super spreader events have not been cancelled. I'm guessing, between increased testing, potentially affected health care care workers, and three days holiday, the government will struggle to do timely retests.

I think he means departure down to the BVIs...
I assume you were bareboating? Maybe charter company can find you a captain...

Definitely retest with an antigen test. A little late for eMed.com but you should be able to find a local antingen option.

Optum may be able to ship same day if you call them - the warehouse is in CA and it is early there - UPS next day is delivering tomorrow.

Thanks for input folks. Cwoody here. ( I am the captain. ) As bailau said, this was the predeparture test.
I took three test total on Friday, two BinaxNOW quick test and one final BINAX proctored test. All came back positive and again even today I remain asymptomatic.
After talking with my crew and reviewing possible options, (delay, hired Capt. , chance of positive test on return) etc.) we all decided cancel was the best option. Yes, we all had cancelation insurance.
Have quarantined myself and will retest Tuesday ( 5 day wait?) and file a cancelation claim (more on that later). The documented positive result will be needed when I file a claim.
We have waited two years for this trip, what's another couple months. Already looking at rebooking this spring!
Safe testing everyone!

That sucks, that you had to cancel, but I guess better to test positive NOW than when you attempt to re-enter the US. It will probably take a while, but keep us updated about the cancellation insurance outcome.

I have 2 and am just south of DC if you need... I actually have 10 of the Binax proctored test I won't be needing. Originally purchased for use before the return trip. I am in northern VA. PM me if anyone interested.

So sorry to hear you need to cancel! Would love to have those test here..... Just canceled NYE plans and tested today ourselves as we were exposed to a positive case last week (no symptoms) and wanted to be safe for our arriving group tomorrow. The home tests are getting hard come by here!

Such a bummer, I am so sorry you have to reschedule! We leave on Thursday for a big event in Mexico (Playing in the Sand) and I am terrified we are going to test positive at some point. We have to get a PCR two days before departure, do a rapid on arrival and then another rapid to get back to the States. Cross your fingers for us! Good news for you is that after all of us have come back from our trips you will still have yours to look forward to!

wooda shoulda coulda....
All clear, neg test today.
Our plan was fly down Saturday, overnight onboard Monday, leave dock on Tuesday... Could have sent the crew down and met them tomorrow....???
No since second guessing.
Someday I will look back on this and laugh... not just yet.

Not really, CWoody, because you had no way of knowing you would test negative today. Your crew could have been down here without a good captain. Since you were able to invoke your travel insurance, you'll still get a trip. You made the right call.
