I have the list of places to get a test before I leave for home in the US. How long does it take from the time of the test to when I get results?
And I assume they will email the results to me, correct?

My husband & I have a rapid antigen test scheduled for Saturday a.m. at Penn Medical. They told us that the results would be emailed to use 1-2 hours after the test.

Do you need a PCR test or will rapid antigen work? PCR tests take 24-48 hours. Rapid antigen same day results.

Email thread from yesterday. Since the PCR is more widely accepted I'll get that one.

We are open on Saturdays and you need not make an appointment. We administer the test between 9am and 12noon at a cost of $90.00 for the rapid antigen and $125.00 for the PCR.

How far in advance do I need to make an appointment?

These responses came in just now. 11/12/21:

Hi

I could relate. Pusser's Rum is the boss.

Ok so the Rapid Antigen is $110.00 and the PCR is $120.00 and yes we are open on Saturdays from 8 to 12 for sample collection and on Sundays 8am to 12pm also but samples taken on Sunday results are ready on Monday morning by 9am.

Reana,

Thanks for getting back to me. I can't wait for a Pusser's rum and pineapple juice.

What are the two test costs, and are you open on Saturday and/or Sunday?

Good Morning

Depending on which test you're doing the waiting period varies.

Rapid Antigen 1hr or a little less
PCR- sample taken before 1pm results available by 6pm same day

This whole thing still confuses me.
Are you going back to the US?
Are you getting the test to get out of BVI, or to get back into the US?
If you are using it to get back into the US, are you sure the antigen test is sufficient? I thought the PCR test was required.

There is no such thing as a "test to get out of BVI". I've never heard of a country with exit protocols.

The test would have to be for entry to where the traveler is going or transiting thru. For the US, an antigen test is sufficient. Even a home proctored rapid antigen test is sufficient.

We did the rapid antigen proctored test on the boat a couple days before we left. Easy peasy.

JimB--a PCR test is required to return to CANADA, but not the US.

I checked the CDC website for passengers returning to the US. It says:

You must be tested with a viral test that could be either an antigen test or a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). Examples of available NAATs for SARS-CoV-2 include but are not restricted to reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)...

The paragraph goes on but I have what I need.

@JasonHelmbrecht: Unfortunately, the BVI did have and perhaps might still have a "test to leave the country", or at least they enforced that rule. When I tried to leave the BVI in July and wasn't allowed to (I needed permission to go to Immigration and that wasn't forthcoming) one of the reasons I was given for their delay was that I didn't have a PCR test. The fact that I was leaving by boat and I didn't need one for my next destination didn't matter. Of course that was during their outbreak where it took 3-5 days to get results back - and any PCR tests older than 5 days are considered invalid... go figure out the crazy BVI rules.

There are definitely some different departure rules for clearing a private vessel out of the territory. For the general tourist leaving by water taxi, flight, or ferry there is no departure testing.
