We are coming to visit for 10 days over the thanksgiving holiday. Two questions: 1) How many moorings spots are there in White Bay? 2) Any tips or tricks on getting a mooring ball? i.e getting there super early, radio channel to call into etc
I have not been since before Irma, but remember them filling up rather quickly.

Make sure your charter company allows going into White Bay. Not all do.

I have not been since before Irma, but remember them filling up rather quickly. Not many. I think 3 by Soggy; 1 permanently occupied, 2 that go fast. I think about 4 or 5 by Ivans. No way to reserve that I'm aware of. I'd highly suggest mooring or anchoring overnight in Great Harbor. With the ground swells, White Bay is a bad spot. If you want to reserve a ball in Great Harbor, you could anchor in White Bay for the day and then move over to GH for the night.

We plan on going just for the day. Can you take a dingy around from great harbor? Never tried, but it looks possible on the map on a nice day. We really enjoyed swimming up to soggy dollar last time

It's also an easy, 20 minute walk for any crew looking for some exercise with a great view. I recommend dropping people at the fuel dock, stopping to see Joan at Sugar and Spice shack for a beer or 2 ($10/3) and a pate. Then walking over!

We really enjoyed swimming up to soggy dollar last time Did just this yesterday. The wave action picked up a bit in the afternoon, so the ladies opted to taxi back to great harbor while three of us enjoyed a fun sporty dingy romp back around. What I wish I would have done, in hindsight, since I ended up on a boatyball, was after reserving the ball, take the boat around to white bay. There were balls both in front of Ivan's and Soggy that we could've grabbed for the day, and then just motored back over to the ball after we had our white bay fun. Next time I'll check.
