Staying @ LaConcha 6 days from U.S. buy duty free at SJU or nearby liquor stores? Experience "passing thru" is some cheaper, some not!

The last time I connected through SJU airport I was extremely disappointed at the selection. And all the liquor stores were run by the same company, so inventory was identical. That trip was several years ago, so it's possible the situation has changed. However, I'd guess you would have much larger selection and more competitive prices in the city.

Not sure about SJU in particular, but it has been my personal experience that airport stores are higher than in town. Definitely the case at STT airport and in SXM.

Not exactly same topic but traveling to STT can you shop in the duty free stores in the US?

no, it's not considered a foreign port, BVI would work. As Carol said the airport shops are pricer then in town. I have not shopped for liquor in San Juan, but Fajardo's liquor sales are really weird. We could only find liquor in Markets in chained cages or locked glass enclosures

AS a rule, it depends on what your buying but I have found the pricing on some of the higher end brands sold in the airport to be the lowest for sure.

I don't think you can buy duty free and take it into Puerto Rico? I could be wrong. You may have to pay the duty as if taking it into the country.

Inbound to SJU, don't think you'd be Duty Free from your outbound origin or airline onboard.

We just connected thru SJU from Tortolla, so I can share that return though...
Stopped in Duty Free after we cleared SJU TSA (love TSA Precheck btw)
Bought 2 1ltr bottles of Stoli - 2 for $28.00
They put it in a little carrying case with a plastic draw string "seal". The clerk then showed me how to pull back the Flap on the top to expose the bottle top!

Bingo...two miniatures @$7.00 -- or a liter @$14.00. Can you do the math?
Party hardy in row 22!
Plus it went well with sprites and pizza in our CLT connection, and carried the takeout drink on to the plane.

Slept most of the way on the last flight. Can't image why!?

As you have cleared US SECURITY out of SJU, you can carry-On to the connections, as you don't have to go thru TSA again.

Skal!
