Look out for Paradise Car Rental, I made a reservation 5 months ago with them for two 1 month rentals, (Jan & Feb.2022) and I receved an email today saying they made a mistake, and would give me a discounted rate, which would still be more than twice what I've usually rented for.
Ace/safari often come up cheap on kayak/expedia and we have never had any issues. There is a deposit taken at rental but it comes off every time. You have to add insurance. They have given us nice car or a pre-beaten one on request so you dont have to worry. They are always at the airport with a shuttle there or super soon there.Being there when you arrive is critical to relieving stress.
I am currently in SXM. I have rented from Ace before with good luck. This time I am renting through NU Car rental. They have a small office in Beacon Hill. Car is great . No problems.

NU was one who came up cheap on our second tonlast visit pre pandemic. They werent there on arrival and another car hawker volunteered and called them for us. We were charged liability right after that big discussion here on it was mandatory for them to pay it. Asked the Guy and he just pointed to a sheet on the wall saying “mandatory” for us to pay.
I pay in cash for the rental, pay for the added insurance on the CC!! Works out to about $8.00 a day. WORTH it!! As I said, service is amazing and lovely people to do business with! Interesting that the CDW and liability insurance is only $8/day total. I at least get the primary CDW coverage by using my CC but, like every other CC, the entire rental transaction has to be on the CC
