Hello all-
In looking recently at charter pricing in BVI, primarily with Moorings, it appears to me that pricing is much higher than in years past.
Has anyone else noticed this? If so, care to suggest the reason?
(Maybe high demand and low inventory?)
Thanks for any replies.

High demand and low inventory - I imagine that there is a lot of pent up demand due to the loss of sailing in 2020 and even into 2021. I know my trip from 2020 is being rescheduled for 2022. was able to apply the deposit but have to eat the higher cost...

I cannot say that I have compared the prices, but it could also be that the costs of buying a new boats has steadily risen, even in the age of Covid.

Make sure when you compare pricing from the past you are comparing like cost boats. As others have mentioned pricing on new boats is much higher. The Moorings flagship boat a 50 Beneteau back in 2000 was 300,000. The 4700 Cat was 450,000 in 2003. The M5000 catamaran is over 1 million today. The boats are also larger today relative to length. A 45 foot cat today has the room of a 50 footer in years past. The same can be said for monohulls. Generators, AC, Watermakers, Electric winches inverters ect. all drive up costs. There are options for lower cost boats. Conch charters always does a good job. Keep in mind you can also try negotiating a lower price. Business at the moment is not booming! G

I regularly have chartered Moorings 514PC and agree prices have gone up. In June we took out the last 514PC at the dock and didn't see a lot of them around to make up for the empty slips so assume they transferred some to other places reducing inventory (supply).
This year you also have artificial demand created from expiring credits from 2020. I has to use 2 weeks worth of trips this year (2021) or they would expire...

Ahoy Captains,
Or You could find some one who is not afraid to get their hands dirty and charter a 2017 Leopard 45 for $1000 a Night or a Classic Leopard 39/42/43 for $500 a Night, maybe less in the Summer ?
