We are getting ready to head down to St Thomas on Thurs. and I was looking for some insite on provisioning. We normally sail the BVIs but this time we are chartering out of Red Hook and staying in the USVIs due to all the hassels with covid restrictions. We have looked on line at Moe's Market in Red Hook for provisions and the prices seem very high. Beer was over $70 a case. Is this typical and are there other more reasonably priced options for provisioning there? Any input/advice would be appreciated.

Moe's is definitely expensive (albeit great quality). Food Center is just a mile down the road from RedHook, considerably cheaper, good selection.

Thanks, we will certainly check it out. We just haven't sailed out of the USVI for so long and don't know the best ways to do things yet.

We recently got back from a 7 day charter out of Compass Point Marina. They had most of what we needed. Good service IMO

We had originally planned to sail both BVI and US waters, now we’ll only be in the US. We are sailing 10 days with 4 adults and 5 kids. I’m concerned with provisioning for this long given there seems to less eat ashore options. I’m very familiar with STJ, did you eat ashore much and if yes, where did you eat?

I’m new to sailing US waters. How did you handle trash and ice? In the BVIs people would come to get trash. I assume this isn’t the case in STJ?

We ate dinners at:
First night that was spent at marina - Took taxi from Compass Point Marina to Red Hook...many options
Cruz Bay - Restaurant - High Tide (awesome), but several other options as well. Took the dinghy from Caneel Bay/honeymoon beach
One night we hiked from Hawksnest to Windmill Bar. 40 minute moderate hike. There was a tent there serving a good variety of food and it was good.
Water Island - Dinghy's
There are restaurants on the beach serving lunch at Maho and Honeymoon, not sure about Trunk Bay. The ones at Maho and Honeymoon shut down at around 4 or 5.

When we refilled our water and fuel tanks at Cruz Bay, we gave the marina employee $3 a bag and he took care of the trash for us. We stored trash the rest of our trip until we got back to Compass Point Marina. Your trip is longer so you may have to find somewhere else. Some of the beaches have trash cans you can throw trash in but the size of trash bags you throw is limited. Ice was at the fuel dock in Cruz Bay as well. Crew reprovisioned QUICKLY at a store up the road while we were filling up as well.
