Hi Folks,
Just booked a last minute (4 days notice) trip to San Juan to get the heck out of the cold... We head down Sunday for 9 days, and I have been researching whenever I can, but the clock is ticking, I need some help please!
Our brief background:
Family of five, mom, dad and 3 boys, 10, 10, 13. We've been to BVI, USVI, Bahamas outislands usually catamaran bareboat charter based, sometimes land based. We enjoy finding secluded beaches for playing in the surf and snorkeling, kayaking, etc. Really dislike crowded beaches where you have to lay your towel down to save a spot for the day.
So - should we stay in a more remote place on PR and find some of the lesser traveled beaches I have read about, or should we head to the Spanish Virgins? Nice snorkeling from an uncrowded beach is a priority. Any favorite must do things?
Thanks!
Mark

Suggest you visit the fort in Old San Juan.

If you like hiking I'd highly recommend you rent a car and drive up into the rainforest 'El Yunque' and hike to a remote waterfall. Take food and water on your hike. It's nice up in the rainforest - 10-15 degrees cooler than on the coast.

Hi Mark, with that many days you can see the whole island plus Vieques and Culebra! PM me and I can send you some info on the main island and our little islands!
You can drive around the whole island and spend the night a couple places. I suggest Rincon for an overnight and Ponce. And of course Old San Juan. Rainforest and the Caves at Camuy, ziplining... so much to do!!

Also check out the lechon palaces (roast pig on a spit) in Guavate. Saturday and Sunday there is a carnival atmosphere with three of the 6 places in the village featuring live salsa and sons bands. Very family friendly. My favorite is El Rancho, but I've only tried two. Google it for details.
