That's good news. It's sad seeing it sit idle every time we're over there.

That's great news! Skipjacks was always a favourite of ours. Hope it is still open when we are there in January and February 2022! I assume it is reopening in the same location?

I'm surprised, as I thought someone said the business filed bankruptcy? It's good news though, if they are coming back.

Just drove by there. Wife commented that it looked like something was going on there as one of the doors was partially open. Great to hear they will be reopening. Won't help us this trip but will be able to enjoy when we return in August.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. Always enjoyed that place. Now, just have to get the tourists back to sustain it in the future.

The day we arrive on the island... 1:00 PM-get luggage. 1:30 PM-get rental car. 2:00 PM-Arrive at LaVista 2:30 PM-Change into island clothes. 3:00 PM-Go to Skipjack's for the Asian plate.
We have followed this routine for many, many years.

Rumors abound. The one I heard is new owners, new restaurant. Guess we'll wait and see.

Before Irma, we went there after all the rave reviews by Taxi from the French side. We arrived and were seated at a table-that every time a waiter/patron walked by our table and my chair reverberated. The chowder was bland as was our fish. We couldn't wait to leave and our driver couldn't believe that we were ready to go home so fast.
Anyway one and done. Hopefully the new joint is a new joi t and a better experience is we try it.

We have had wonderful meals at skipjack in the past. Maybe an off night for you. I've had one off experience there before but subsequent visits were wonderful. Looking forward to the reopening. I'll check them out this coming May.

We have been to Skip Jacks once pre Irma. The decor and view where great, the food and service was ok, although i couldn't tell you what we had. The one thing we remember was the noise from the packed house was so loud that we almost could not talk with out yelling, probably due to the fact we were seated right in the middle of the dining room. Glad they are making their way back though.

I presum they are the same as in the states. Chapter 11 or 7 or just a reorganization. All different levels of bankruptcy.

St Maarten has similar laws as compared to the US Bankruptcy Code Chapter 11 & Chapter 7. In St Maarten, the US Chapter 11 is their version called a Moratorium. The US Chapter 7 is their Bankruptcy. In St Maarten, a Moratorium is a temporary measure that allows the debtor to try and improve their financial position and work through partial or full repayment of their debt to their creditors. If the Moratorium doesn't work than it goes to Bankruptcy and that is similar to the US Chapter 7 which is a liquidation bankruptcy. St Maarten is still governed by the St Maarten Bankruptcy decree of 1931.
Similar, but not exactly the same.

I do not. I just know the type of bankruptcy allowed in St Maarten. Everyone is using the word "bankruptcy" to refer to the situation with Skipjacks, and if it was a "bankruptcy" under St Maarten law than it would be a full liquidation of the assets. But, If it was a Moratorium than maybe Skipjacks closed in order to stop hemorrhaging money while the pandemic was going on and used that time and their existing bank liquidity to work out some form of payment scheme with their creditors until they were able to reopen in a more favorable financial climate.

OK, thanks. If they reopen as Skipjacks, one would think they did a Moratorium, which would be the equivalent of a Chapter 11 in the US. But who knows..

If it was a true Bankruptcy, the name "Skipjacks" could have been sold as part of the liquidation. I'm sure the name has true value and would have brought real money if sold.
