I am embarassed to admit but in all my years of going to STT and Vis's I have never stopped at Water Island nor used Honeymoon Beach as a last night. Are there mooring bouy's or just anchoring, how is the holding, is there much noise being so close to CA harbor? Since we are taking a week before the next trip and staying in a condo at Cowpet is it better to take the ferry over to Water island for the day? Any insight?

Any moorings there are private -- for the most part you will have to anchor -- behind the mooring field -- about 25' or deeper in sand, good holding. There is no sound from the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. A visit by ferry beforehand would be enjoyable and informative.

I have to agree with local sailor, at Honeymoon it's quiet even during Carnival. You could also try Elephant Bay which is just across from Crown bay marina and it's a 5 minute dinghy ride to Honeymoon or get a slip at Crown Bay Marina.

Very little noise, even when the container ships pass by. Great boat watching, great sunsets and terrific food and drink at Heidi's...

Even in Elephant Bay where the freighters and Cruise ships pass and dock It's quiet. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

We anchored there last night in November and will likely do so again in March. Very nice.

Thanks all for the input, since we are in STT for a week before the charter will probably do a day trip to check out.

I really like Honeymoon. The water is calm and it's easy to land a dingy. There's often food trucks and sometimes a small band on the weekends. The last time we anchored there, in low season, it was VERY packed and I wasn't all that thrilled about it. We were fine, but just.
If you anchor near the moorings you will swing differently, and you have to really pay attention. If you anchor WAY out it's a long way to the beach... no swimming in. (not for me, anyway).

You just need to find out who may have a mooring to rent. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We went to dinner last night at Heidi's. This was our first visit in almost a year. LOTS of changes at Honeymoon Beach, and can't say that I liked any of them. From the loud music at the other end of the beach to the lounge chairs people are obviously renting to the cruise ship people to the new set-up for dinner (not on the beach any longer but back behind a fence), I guess the times they are a'changing...
