Even with Covid, the effect of the cancelled regatta is widespread. Only a few boats in Simpson Bay. Yacht club is not packed. No Heineken merchandise this year. No sale on Myers Rum at Carrifours. No need for tender services, etc. and Port d’ P is very quiet. No people. The amount of money “lost”, is staggering. As an side, the winds have been, as the weather reported, “blustery”. I remember the year they had to suspend the races as so many masts were snapped.
I wonder what happened to the Heineken merchandise? That stuff would have had to have been ordered quite a bit in advance of the date, and presumably would have already been well underway or already received by the time they cancelled this year.
Every year I get a regatta tee shirt from Shipwreck Shops. Since the one at OBBR was closed when I arrived the 2nd week of January, I went to the one on Front Street and asked about them. They told me then that there would be no apparel this year, so I guess the decision not to order was made early on.
