Where would be a good place for someone older, traveling alone to Jamaica stay? Is this something that would be safe for a first time visitor? I have been to SXM many times alone and other places but this would be a first time for me there.

Safest bet would be an all inclusive, i.e. Sandals.

Problem with places like Sandals, is that I THINK they only book couples.

Check out Jamaica Inn in Ocho. Classy place, great service and wonderful food (can be AI or not). Although a very quiet, boutique hotel, you may want more activity at one of the larger hotels. I would go AI.

Well I assume your a single woman and worried about safety. I would suggest you find an all inclusive resort where your basically in a gated community and explore the island on guided tours. :cheers

Where you stay should depend on what you'd like to do. There are many a/I's in Negril (as well as other destinations in Jamaica) that accept singles. More info is needed to recommend a specific area or resort. As far as safety is concerned, it's as safe as your home city. Don't walk alone on the beach at night etc. There are plentiful cheap taxi's cruising the beach area, if you'd like to venture out to one of the restaurants or nightspots.

Your right it's like home city Detroit, so pop on a string bikini and mind your own business and everything will be fine.

Hi and thank to all. I basically want to go someone and just do nothing for a few days. I am worried about the safety aspect but all I need is a beach, a chair and someone to have breakfast and dinner. THanks

See Carol Hill's review of Grand Lido. Located on Bloody Bay, away from the hustle of Long Bay. Quietest beach in Negril. Also check out RIU Club. Same bay. I'd recommend Sunset at the Palms, but since they went adults only, I'm not sure if they allow singles. You could check on their website.

St. John VI sounds like the ticket.

Security is certainly very good at GLN. As for the rest of the resort? Depends on your expectations. See the report.

OP- while my experience is rather limited, and we are not AI ppl, and I'm not sure what budget might be, I can tell you that your idea of just doing nothing for a few days on the beach is just what we usually have on our itinerary- and while Jamaica is a beautiful and special place with interesting culture and people- I don't think its the best place to just sit and watch the sand grow. Not putting it down at all, just think there are better places for those of us who just want to sit. It looks like your on the east coast- and in that you are very lucky travel wise- I'd really really suggest another locale- either a beach spot like Tulum Mexico (just far enough from Cancun to be close travel without the crazy crowds.) I second the St. Johns suggestion. Just my 2 cents.
