Weird, if I'm reading that chart correctly, it will be service from DFW to SXM in the SUMMER only..

Since reading this post I have been going to aa.com to check fares for this non-stop DFW-SXM but only see the flights connecting thru MIA and CLT. I looked for a Saturday to Saturday in July. Any thoughts??

It is either not in their system yet or something has changed. Give it a few days and keep checking or give AA a call.

Well AA has posted the DFW-SXM non stop. I checked for July 17-24. The non stop was $1,922 per person in the main cabin and the flights connecting in MIA or CLT range from $550 to 800. No way AA. I will check back in a few weeks. I bet when they sell no tickets the fares will reduce.

..either that, or they will announce that they will not run the flights yet. To ME, this just seems like a very odd time for AA to add another non-stop to SXM, from anywhere.. It isn't like you can't get to SXM on AA from there, via a connection.

Fares are usually highest first day they become available. Couple days later they come down but that fare is unreasonable for just coming out.

I think the DFW is a good idea, I think AA should go with DFW, MIA and JFK (sorry CLT and PHL). This could pull some of us in the west that would instead go to Hawaii or Mexico. The idea of connecting in DFW is appealing and I am sure for the Southern Western region it would really be a draw. Our last trip and our next two trips coming back from SXM goes SXM-MIA-DFW-PDX. If we could skip MIA that would be fantastic.

Todd. We have connected through DFW a few times returning from St Maarten and have had to overnight in Dallas because of weather and delayed/cancelled flights a few times. It can happen at any airport but or track record going through DFW hasn't been that great. We prefer the SEA-MIA or SEA-CLT direct for leaving or returning to/from SEA. Our daughter that lives in Vancouver has taken the Alaska PDX flight to SEA and then on to MIA or CLT on American. Alaska handled the baggage transfers and connections. Even did it using Alaska miles too in First class/Business. Might want to look into that.

You might want to check again. I just pulled up July 17-24 for DFW-SXM and see a fare of $408 for Basic Economy and $468 for Main Cabin (2 seats left at the price but the plane is wide open). If you are in the market, excellent fares! This is as of 6:15am on 2/15.

Jaybird--good deal. Hope the flight goes as planned. AA does have a tendency to cancel nonstops and change to connecting flights, except for the Miami flight... I would pay close attention and keep checking the flight pretty often, as even if they send a notice of a change, it often seems to be a week or so AFTER they actually do it. Best wishes.

Pretty much you name the route and we have done it. On UA via ORD, EWR as well as IAD, on Delta via ATL, on AA via MCO/MIA, DFW/MIA, CLT, PHL, PHX/MIA, LAX/MIA, LAX/SJU, on Alaska to JFK, JB down, Alaska to FLL, cab to MIA and down, and a few times via SEA or SFO and those routes. It is always a search for what will work, big seats for the long trip and if we have to add extra days we are the winners. We have done two trips back via MIA and MCI. We don't mind spending a night going or coming back, splits up the trip.

I like big seats I cannot lie!

I prefer to avoid SEA and SFO in November as well as northern cities because of higher chances of flight delays when connecting. 75k with Alaska so if I can use for part of the trip I do, mostly save my miles for the longer international trips in FC unless it gets stupid for air cost like our earlier trip to Cabo this year. Tough part of our trip down in November is that is the beginning of the Thanksgiving week, we will wait it out and find something.

To spend a night along the way DFW with the Hyatt Regency there at the airport is a pretty nice stop. Our favorite airport hotel other than TWA at JFK.

Glad you were able to take advantage of the great price but as others have said, watch those reservations closely. The really good thing about AA is that, while they do constantly cancel and/or change flight status, when this happens it's always been my experience they will turn themselves inside out to accommodate you on alternate flights in order to keep you happy. This has happened to us many times on both revenue and FF tix and they've always been very good about it.

Respectfully,

pat

Pat--that is true, since if they make a substantial change to the flight--and going to a connecting flight would definitely be a substantial change--they HAVE to give you your money back. They prefer not to do that, so they are generally willing to change dates of travel, etc., with no fees, since their other alternative is to give you your money back.

Not sure on a connection vs a non-stop, I would THINK that would constitute a substantial change. For connections, it is now 4 hours with AA to be considered substantial.

Connection versus a nonstop definitely is substantial. The hour rule used to be two hours, I think, not sure.

Certainly few perfect if any airline and they all mess up from time to time. . Never had any problems with American Airlines. They have stood by and supported SXM for decades. 👍

Be glad the subject is about flying in July. Dallas airport is closed due to power outages and other storm issues.
