Since Covid happened I have been living vicariously through my camera role and dreaming about the day we can travel again ...thought I would do a small report on our last European vacation ...
In fall of 2019 my husband was told he must participate in mandatory training at Port Revel in France . He was a Harbour Pilot in the port of Saint John New Brunswick in Eastern Canada . He was set to retire in 6 months but oh well if the government wants to send me on training...what is a guy to do ! And what is his gal to do ...go with him of course .
So in October last fall off we go for another incredible European adventure . We chose to fly to and return from Portugal and enjoy an extended weekend on both ends of his 5 day training.
First stop was Porto ...what a beautiful coastal city . We had a cool place just steps away from the water front and thoroughly enjoyed all this city had to offer ..including Port, and tarts ..
After a wonderful long weekend in Porto we headed to France for Captain Ward’s training sessions ....we stayed in the cutest little French town called Cote Saint Andre close to the Rhone Alps .
While the boys went to “ school” at Port Revel playing with cool model boats the girls were taken site seeing along the gorgeous French countryside . Our first day we visited a medieval fortified city where I discovered that a former Duke from the 13 th century bearing my maiden name lived here at one time. Coolest thing ever to find your ancestry by accident. We even have our own wine !
Another day we visited the chartreuse Mountain monastery and learned all about the herbal magical drink made by monks called chartreuse!! Will heal what ails ya ..that’s for sure .
