Greetings from sunny Indiana!
We are chartering with CYOA from Dec.30-Jan.8, which will of course be a trip sans-BVI. We have been considering spending a few days in the SVI, but I'm having little luck finding out anything useful online in answer to whether the COVID situation currently permits or prohibits the same. Anybody with recent experience sailing from the USVI to the SVI?

You will have to ask at CYOA for current situation during your charter time. Constantly changing restrictions there -- very high Covid #'s this week in PR over 2500 new cases yesterday alone

As LocalSailor suggests, it would be best to check with CYOA, but when inquiring about our upcoming trip (9th-16th), we received the following response from our CYOA charter consultant:
The PR government has closed their borders Dec 7-Jan 7, sorry no sailing to the islands of the SVI (Culebrita, Culebra, Vieques, PR) will be allowed.

Puerto Rico closed recreational boating yesterday for a minimum of thirty days.

I would expect the USVI will soon put curfews in place as well as closing down of bars as they did before with the spikes that are happening in the USVI

We are chartering tomorrow with CYOA and they have not given us permission to go because of the 30 day closure that Puerto Rico enforced on December 7th for thirty days to recreational boaters. Probably not worth the risk if they won’t clear you in. We had planned to at least hit Culebra and Culebrita again.

The USVI just had the worst Covid numbers I have seen. 58 cases in one day. Not sure how much longer anything will stay open.

How many deaths from COVIT? This is the only year that nobody was infected with Dengue fever.

Just had to clean out some crap out of this thread. Apparently I have to continue to remind the conspiracy theorists that political talk is not allowed here.

Carol,
how do you know what is fact vs conspiracy?
Certainly can’t rely on google or snopes etc.

Hey there! Any updates on Spanish VI's? My cousin is planning to cruise on our boat January 23-30th and I February 1st-8th. Our ideal scenario is to fly into SJU and sail the Spanish VI's. Think they will be open by then to tourism? Just did USVI last month so prefer not to do that again but will if that's our only option. Guessing BVI still closed... Thanks!!!!

Checking in here again. My cousin is planning on traveling on January 23rd and I on Feb 1 to our boat. Did the Spanish VI update their seaport access today as expected? can't find it as of yet. We are somewhat flexible between USVI and Spanish VI, but prefer Spanish....

It depends on IF the DNR approves vessel entry. Here is the official announcement in English: "Governor Pedro Pierluisi has issued Executive Order number 2021-010 authorizing recreational use of vessels effective January 8th, 2021. Said order is valid for 30 days. We have not received an official communication from the Department of Natural Resources (DRN); therefore, the contents of this communication are subject to change."

The governor you mention hasn’t been governor for close to two years My mistake he won the election in November.

JPHART, my crew member had his law firm's team translate the doc after I couldn't figure out how. I have the full edict in English. But it was texted to me and can't seem to figure out how to email. send me a direct message or post your cell phone # here and I'll text it to you!
