Hi,

We hope to visit for a yacht charter towards the end of January 2021. I'd like to get a local SIM card and pre-paid mobile phone plan. Due to the quarantine restrictions, etc. we will not be able to visit the Flow or Digicell shop in Road Town to buy one ourselves. My UK contract has no packages for use in the BVI and the base costs are exorbitant, prohibitive even for data (GB£6/MB).

I have asked our charter company if the local staff could do this for us in advance but I'm not holding my breath.

Several other threads on this forum recommend mrsimcard.com. They seem to offer very different bundles from those available on the [url=https://discoverflow.co/british-virgin-islands/mobile/plans/prepaid]Flow website[/usr]. For example:
  • Flow: 7-days, $28, 7 GB data, 350 minutes (any local plus USA, CA, UK... landlines)
  • mrsimcard: 7-days, $45, 3 GB data, 350 minutes local calls (no international)

I guess the difference could just be a feature of the service Mr. Simcard is offering.

It is not clear in each case whether that includes the SIM-card cost and any activation fee.

And further information would be appreciated.

Put it on your provision list, I would hope they would get it for you as you are unable to purchase,

I used mrsimcard on our 2018 trip and it was pretty seamless. I had an unlocked Samsung S7. Got to Tortola, popped in the sim card, made a tweak to the APN if I recall correctly and we were good to go. The exact instructions about activation were provided by mrsimcard. You buy the card and give them the activation date.
