Forgive the newbie question. After eight sailing trips to the BVI we're considering venturing over to St. John's for a night or two (in December 2021). I've been reading that clearing customs into the USVI can be done with an app on your phone. Can that be done anywhere as long as you have a signal? Or do you still need to enter a port with a C&I office? Thank you. (Been off Travel-Talk for over a year - amazed at the wealth of information provided by you fine folks.)

You'll first need to clear out from the BVI. Use ROAM app to submit your entry to US Customs & Border Patrol. You will need to be physically with US waters for the app to process your submittal. You may need to follow-up with a phone call to St John CBP if you don't hear back within 15-30 minutes.

And the boat (I believe must be US registered) must have a CBP registration sticker.... Then it is easy with App, once in US waters with Cell signal.

If you are returning to the BVI, I believe you will have to have another test and quarantine when you do return to the BVI . . . is that correct?

Thanks all for your input. And yes, we are hoping by December of 2021 the whole COVID thing is but an unpleasant memory.
