Got the dreaded notice today that our November flight has been cancelled. Our next window of opportunity is January.

Sorry to hear that. I guess it is low occupancy? Was your flight empty, do you know?

I am surprised they even would offer flights until at least December. Even during normal times the island doesn't seem to really get busy until then. Once it gets cold SXM gets busy.

Even offering $250,000 per person free COVID insurance hasn’t helped . West jet has also stopped servicing eastern Canada . So fasten your belts as this COVID 19 is not going away any time soon . So happy Canada has once again closed the USA border to land crossing .

Doesn't Canada have a requirement for a two week quarantine upon returning? My suspicion is that most people can't afford the time for vacation AND the quarantine after..

Correct Carol - 14 day quarantine for entries to Canada
For those of us who work at home, not such a problem, if I was nclined to travel, which we are not considering at his time

To foreversxm - Toronto [yyz] has - pre Covid - always had year round non nstops to SXM, just more in the winter - we've been lucky with flights

I guess a lot of people there are working from home? A two week quarantine would be totally unworkable for me.

After Nov cancellation we just rebooked for early Dec, but don’t hold out much hope. Money is moving in and out of our WestJet travel bank like a revolving door! Only way to fly for sure is via US.

Speaking of retirement I've been retired for 4 years now and my wife just retired this summer. Our plan was to visit SXM for a month this winter and shorter trips throughout the year are now a possibility. Figures duh.Well we may be under a travel delay right now but there will come a time when travel is safe again and we will still be retired and ready to go.Looking forward to visiting the island in the low season as my wife always had to take her vacation time in February, which is not such a bad thing when you live in Canada. Stay safe everyone.

I already cancelled for January 2021. Between not knowing if we can get down there, the two week post trip quarantine, the worrying about contracting the virus from someone, we’ve decided it’s just not worth the risk. We live in a small city of about 50,000 in SW Ontario and have done so well with COVID-19, it’s just something we have to do to keep everyone safe. Hopefully 2022 will be better for us all!

Thats to bad. It's a tough decision to have to make but you have to do what you feel is right for you.
