Are any beaches on St. Thomas topless or nude. I know Solomon on St. John used to be nude.

There are no nude beaches in the USVI - not in practice or custom like the French Is.- it is possible to find some deserted beaches on occasion but since it is against the law no beach is designated as a nude beach. Solomon and Jumbie on St John were often desribed as a place for topless bathing in the past but the NPS Rangers and the change in popularity and demographics have changed that perception.

LocalSailor's post was right on. Do not count on anything in the USVI, unless you happen to find an uninhabited beach. Even then, make sure you have a coverup handy.

The NP rangers hide in the bushes hoping to catch people.
One guy got a ticket for nudity because they caught him changing into a swim suit.
And what ever you do don't argue with them or they'll Taser you or even shoot if they feel they have to.
It's so relaxing to be on a beautiful beach and see these Rangers dressed up like the Gestapo working in a dangerous ghetto.
Things are changing.

I kind of doubt they would taser you for just arguing, but whatever.

To return to the OP's question: Local Sailor answered it very well. It is not just a St Thomas or St John issue, but for most of the islands in the Caribbean, nudity in public is counter to the mores of the local people. Many folks bring their own concept of what beach wear should be to the tropics, but remember "when in Rome..."

Little Megans is about the only place I know of, and have not been there since the 1980's when I had the hams for sun bathing al-fresco. It's on the NE side of Megans Bay and a steep walk down a rocky slope to the water.

I have no idea if it's still 'a thing.'

No one is hiding in the bushes looking for nudes, but it is illegal in the USVI. I have never seen any nude or topless bathing in any of the USVI's in over 30 years of going there.

Yes, you can still stumble upon the occasional nude sunbather even though it's illegal. You may even come across an herbal smell in the air in the most public of places, even though its illegal

The nude sunbathers I've seen are usually on less populated beaches and have always been respectful around my family. One time though....there was this guy lying nekkid on the beach right in the middle of Cinnamon Bay St John, keep in mind this is a busy National Park beach and campground.. The beach was filling up and we grabbed a spot maybe 100 feet from this "nut", in front of my 7 year old daughter he proceeded to stand up, walk around and stretch in all his glory We prepared to find another spot when he shuffled by wearing a sheet like a toga carrying a milk jug of some concoction, that nut job needed to get off the rock for a while .

Now, to each their own, buts there's a time and a place for everything

I frequently see both men and woman, usually visiting from Europe, nude and topless on various beaches. It is the norm for them so they think nothing of it. I have never seen anyone of them get a ticket or even a warning.

They were on the popular St. Thomas beaches for the cruise ship visitors. No rangers, and no police.

Makes sense the NP Rangers like quiet place like St John where they can enjoy their voyeristic personalities.

Last visit to Caneel Bay in 2007 we stumbled upon nude sunbathers/snorkelers on Salomon in the mornings, no big deal.
