Here in RI the governor says the state made plans with two labs to speed up results.

IN the notice it says since testing may be required for travel so you can avoid quarantine, Rhode Island Convention Center location will test with a turn around of 24 hours.

RonDon,
Interesting! Thanks for the information. Here's what the web page maintained by the Rhode Island Department of Health says:

"If you are planning to travel to a state that requires a COVID-19 test in order to avoid extended quarantine, you are now able to schedule a test through portal.ri.gov. Testing will take place at the Rhode Island Convention Center parking garage, located at 114 West Exchange St. in Providence. Individuals will receive their results within 24-48 hours."

Here is the link to that web page:
https://health.ri.gov/covid/testing/

That's a state that is appropriately thinking..

..I wonder if us "on the MA/RI border" people can use the facilities

Edit: Looks like there are 5 different categories of reasons for testing. The first three are for RI residents (symptomatic, exposure, age) but the last two seem to be for anyone ...travel to destinations that require testing and visiting from a state with an over 5% rate of infection...THERE IS HOPE!

Doesn't say if it is the PCR test that SXM requires.

We got an email from the governor's office in which it said the PCR required for travel will be available at the Providence Convention Center with a 24 to 48 hour turn around.

Again, what type of test is required for travel WITHIN the US can be different than what is required to go to SXM, especially since SXM specifically requires that the results NOT be labelled as EUA.

Quoting from the website from AUC spouse above "If you are planning to travel to a state that requires a COVID-19 test in order to avoid extended quarantine,....."

From reading the CDC website all COVID tests being administered at this time have to have an EUA....no test has gone through the normal vetting process

From the SXM Government website re: entry requirements the test required is the PCR (last updated July 27th)

Quote
Before Your Departure to St. Maarten
• Complete self health declaration form online 72 hours prior to arrival at www.stmaartenentry.com, and carry your copy.
• A COVID-19 (PCR) taken and receive the test result within 72 hours prior to your arrival date.
• Please travel with masks and hand sanitizer
• Please wear the mask during travel
• Research and read the guidelines and protocols of the Airline you are traveling on and your Airport of Embarkation and visit the website of Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM Airport), www.sxmairport.com, for any updates.

Not new info but the latest official guidelines

The COVID test required by states for visitors arriving from hot zone states is the same test

boucharda--THIS PAGE says

"A rt-PCR test for the SARS-COV-2 virus obtained from a naso-pharyngeal swab only and performed within 72 hrs. prior to departure to Sint Maarten (last leg in case of connecting flights) is required for all travelers originating from a country that is categorized as high or moderate risk . Other tests such as antibody tests or antigen tests and tests performed outside of this 72h period will not be accepted. rt-PCR test methods with an Emergency Use Only Authorization (EUA) approval from the FDA will not be accepted. Even though SXM is open to US travelers they are making it pretty difficult to be able to comply.

I'm just wondering how are US travelers are getting around the EUA statement on their test results.

Correct. I am aware of what the SXM info says....and the CDC says that ALL present rt-PCR COVID tests that are being done are being completed under an EUA authorization. Kinda the reason that all the results should have the EUA on them. This pertains to the USA....testing in the USA 72 hours pre-arrival....no clue what authorization SXM has put on their testing methods if any....and not pertinent to the pre-arrial testing

If ALL tests pre-arrival will have the EUA on them it's lame to suggest testing before arrival at all and obviously they are NOT testing all arrivals so I would "assume" some results do not include the EUA in print on the results...no clue why it would be there anyway

I do NOT have first hand info on this...
