On Sunday, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened the travel advice for Sint Maarten to code orange (only necessary trips). The ministry decided not to recommend vacation trips to the island because of the increase in coronavirus infections.
The ministry urges people not to travel to St. Maarten unless absolutely necessary. Travelers from Sint Maarten are advised to quarantine for a fortnight. Code yellow applies to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao (note, security risks).
More infections have been confirmed on Sint Maarten than in the other parts of the Caribbean part of the Dutch kingdom. It concerns 128 infections and fifteen deceased corona patients. Last week, Curaçao issued a negative travel advice for Sint Maarten.
The virus has completely halted the tourism sector, an important source of income for Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. An emergency financial package must support the islands.
However, an agreement on emergency support has not yet been successful because the islands do not agree with the conditions set by the Dutch cabinet.
