I'm concerned about the load factor of 67% with a B/E of 75%. One way around this is higher fares.

Here is another of my dumb questions: If you have more money than you know what to do with it, can you purchase the middle seat between you and your travelling companion and have no one sitting in it?

Let me qualify that - on AA and JB you can and I’m guessing on others, too, but that ‘others’’ part is pure speculation on my part.

Correct but First Class often runs a thou or more a seat. You can often find coach for Five hundred or less a seat depending on the market. Even allowing for a couple drinks each and free bags, two seats in First is often considerably more expensive than three coach seats.
