Annette (co-owner of Bavaria, along with her husband) announced via Facebook the permanent closing of Bavaria. Very sad as they were a long time established restaurant and a favorite of many, including myself. Very glad I got to eat there in March. I wish them well.

Bavaria became one of our favorites in recent years. We wish we had discovered it sooner and are sad to see yet another Sint Maarten culinary gem depart.

I also don't see this on Bavaria's page; is it on Annette's page?

Annette posted this on the Pirates of SXM Facebook group page. If one is a member, they can see the actual post there. It is a closed group so posting a link will do no good if one is not a member. Another poster has commented on her personal FB page as well.

That is sad.
I've been there several times in the past and it was good each time. Did they give any reasons for the closure?
I remember once when I was in Antigua when the urge for some cooking from home (I'm German) hit me, so I sailed up to SXM the next day so that I could have dinner at Bavaria!

Bavaria has been around as far back as I can remember though I don’t recall the year we first dined there. If you enjoy German food it was the best and the strudel, warmed and served with ice cream, was out of this world.
Annette and her husband have apparently decided on retirement and I know all here who have had the pleasure of knowing them wish them Godspeed wherever they wander and with whatever endeavors they undertake.
Respectfully,
pat

No specific reason was given for closing. I know they were well into 20 years in business and probably closer to 25+ from what I recall from a past conversation.

So sorry to see this. We’ve been going to Bavaria for many years. We’ll sure miss Annette and her husband. We ate there at least three times a visit. We wish them good luck and good health in their retirement. They will be sorely missed. Truly a giant loss for the island.

Well they had a good run. We got there twice in the last few years. Best German food on the island. Current situation is going to be a weighing ona lot of business’ decisions going forward I expect.
