If they are residents, Can they quarantine in there own homes? Also concerned When they open up Island to tourists if they will put them in quarantine? Not gonna work, someone coming for a week or two vacations can not spend isolated!!!! This is a huge concern, guess just have to wait and see. I like alot of folks have property there, and have no clue when we can get back, or what restrictions they will impose, but I do understand the health of people on Island have to come first. Not a good time for anyone...

According to a notice today from the Maho group....both the Sonesta and Royal Islanders are set for opening on July 1 and July 4 respectfuly. With the government ordering it's own residents to quarantine at a hotel facility for 14 days....don't understand how they can let ''visitors'' go to a hotel, villa, timeshare or even at a friend's home WITHOUT quarantining in just a bit over a month. The article states that the quarantining is not a ''voluntary'' quarantine at home. Wondering how the Government then can even think of opening up the island for tourism that quickly. Does this make sense to anyone??? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just because Sonesta and Royal are opening doesn't mean the airport will be open to international travel.

The world is opening up and taking some risks. SXM is part of the world. Zero risk is impossible, even with a vaccine. The world and SXM will find the “Acceptable” intersection point. Those who disagree with the majority can mitigate the risk separately at home.

The government authorities will have to carefully consider whether to allow American tourists to enter and under what conditions. Look at it from their point of view: The USA has no coordinated testing or tracing system. The reporting of virus infection and exposure is voluntary, and applied inconsistently. The island does not have to resources or testing capacity to follow tourists day-to-day to test & contact trace in case of positive test. I envision the day will come when there is a vaccine available, all those who enter will be required to show proof of vaccination.

Sounds like this PM plan is to have everyone plant a garden and wait it out. Seriously? In the meantime relieve money is slow to come or not coming and they are debating on who’s salary’s get cuts and avoiding the question as much as possible, when will the airport open. Obviously you can’t have tourists in quarantine so do they really think by keeping the island closed isn’t going to cause much worse long term damage than the virus? While they debate where are the moneys going to come from you have tourists begging to come back on the island to spend tourist dollars. SXM people want to work they don’t want to beg for money or fake offers of help. They can’t hide from this forever and they can’t just wait it out. People are learning to deal with around the world and opening. Hopefully sxm government will realize they to will have to open and stop hiding from this cause it will be around for a long time. We are taking about something that you have a .001 chance of dying from. Set up your arrival protocols , take precautions. Everyday is another day lost and the more damage long term.
