We had reservations for June13-20. Haven't heard anything from the airlines or resort yet. Before we cancel we prefer to hear from them first. Has anyone received word about any cancellations in June?

Smart money says check your airline reservations once or twice a week. We have often gotten notice of cancellation but we’ve had other occasions where we never got them.

It’s better for you to let the airline cancel you rather than you cancel them. Under those circumstances, the USDOT laws say they must give you a like kind refund when they cancel your flight. It’s been my experience AA and Delta are good about this. JB requires a little more effort and insistence on your part, or at least, that was our most recent experience with them. I have no idea what United is like to deal with.

With reference to the resorts, no clue.

Respectfully,

pat

Thanks Pat, I do check them daily and most would surely put the burden of cancellations on their back, not mine.

As, Scubaman indicated, what resort? If it would happen to be Atrium, they are closed until Oct. Others are dependent on what the government of either side of the island does.

As far as airlines, I have not heard of any cancellation going into June yet but the island is still not open but that could all change by your travel dates. Your likely going to be in limbo for a few more weeks until the travel situation is sorted out more. Honestly, I doubt the airlines or the resort know anything for sure at this point.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry for not mentioning the names. We have reservations for June 13-20 at SBR. Flying down on JB and returning on Delta. As I said before though I'll let them make the cancellations.

Hi Luvitinsxm,

We're in the same boat, but a week earlier than you 6/4 to 6/12, We are flying AA and I check our flights daily. There is a message that says ...

Your flight changed
Please check back soon to see what changed.

I am doubtful that our trip will happen, but we are willing to go if possible. I plan to let AA cancel our tickets rather than us cancelling. Not sure if I need to cancel our first three nights at SB Villas or if they will even be open. We shall wait and see. I believe I read that the PM is supposed to reveal more news with the plans for reopening this Sunday 6/10, so maybe we will learn more this weekend.

That is about all one can do at this point, wait and see. Sadly, I think even June does not even look promising at this point.

I recently booked a flight (SXM-BOS) on Jet Blue for June 6, after my May 23rd flight was cancelled. I'm not real confident the airport will be open that soon. Like everyone, I suspect the airlines are in a wait/see mode until the St Maarten government decides what to do.

Regarding PJIA...if I remember correctly in early April there were two choices....a 2 month lock down of the airport or a 6 month "hibernation". Was it announced which was in effect? Big difference between the end of May and sometime in October...

My trip is scheduled June 22 to July 22. Not very optimistic that it will happen and not sure I should go even if the island opens. In a wait and see posture like everyone else.

I just posted this on the other thread: We just got an email from American, telling us there was a schedule CHANGE to our May 8th flight. The CHANGE was the flight was cancelled and they wanted to rebook us for August, when they believed their flights will resume.

I politely told them NO, they cancelled the flight and I wanted a refund. I got them to issue a complete refund because I didn't want a change in flights or a voucher considering what may or may not happen.

That's interesting, that AA thinks they will resume flights in August.

Thanks for all the info folks. We would consider going because I feel like the crowds would be non-existent everywhere. We usually do a lot of cooking in the resort and spend most of our time laying on the beach or by the pool so we're usually not around many folks anyways. I was just considering having to be quarantined for 14 days after we arrive and if that's the case, well than it's a no go for sure. Just really feel bad for all the folks that depend on tourism for a living down there.

No, no way a tourist could consider being quarantined for 14 days after arrival, unless you're going for at least a couple of months.

I believe the quarantine refers to SXM residents returning. They are not even considering tourists returning at this time....

We had the same experience with our AA flight for May 22nd. Our flight was "changed", actually canceled. I had already purchased tix for July 5th for 40% less than our May tix, so I will be visiting AA's refund
web page today. Still hopeful for July! August has a much higher hurricane risk...
