We used evouchers to purchase tickets to SXM that had an expiration of 2020 and used to book last year for our trip this May that I canceled. Just got email today that they reinstated those vouchers to expire 4/29/21. Class act.👍

We just re-booked flights to SXM on AA for October and paid for the tickets with credit from our cancelled May trip. There was $400 left over and AA issued evouchers to us. The vouchers are dated today but there is no reference to an expiration date. How do I know that they are good for a year?

Read the small print; it's in there somewhere. At least that's been my experience with AA.

Just checked my email and AA completed my refund and should be posted to my CC in a few days if not already. Now I have to wait to see if I have to go through the same process if my July trip doesn't happen.

Sadly, American just cancelled our May 15 flight to SXM. Fortunately I was able to get through on the phone while only holding for five minutes. They refunded everything back to the credit card. I was expecting a long hold time but I was pleasantly surprised.

No need to wait on the phone; their online refund request works quite well.

Surprised they refunded over the phone. I had to log onto the refund site after they did the cancellation over the phone

We were very early into the cancellation thing but I did it completely over the phone.

The only difficulty I experienced was we had purchased our FC tix very early due to a sale situation and when they said they’d make the refund back to our cc I didn’t recall we had cancelled that credit card. When a week went by and we hadn’t seen the refund show up I checked the old card and sure enough - there sat our rather sizable credit. Citi was very good and within three days they direct deposited it into our bank account but I have a feeling had I not been proactive in looking for it, the credit might have sat there forever.

Respectfully,

pat

I've had that happen before when Citi changed our card. They eventually make the transfers but takes time. If they send a credit balance out two billings in a row they usually send out a check if it was originally paid in full.

Did they cancel the flight or did you?

If they cancelled, the DOT rules say they MUST give the refund in the same manner you originally paid the for the tickets. JB and I went round and round over this and finally they conceded it was a law and they credited the money back to my cc. I did not want a credit in their travel bank.

After waiting we got an email today saying the ticket was non-refundable. We were heading to FL to catch last minute bargain 5 day cruise that canx. I dont remember if they canx the flight before departure but we werent going without a boat. It was less than a $100 each. No biggie.

Oh, it was a flight to Florida. I thought you meant it was a trip to SXM.

That sounds pretty much like what JB told us but non-refundable doesn’t mean squat if the airline cancels the flight but in all honesty, if the ticket amount was that small I probably wouldn’t waste my time either although to me it’s more about the principle.

pat--sounds like to me that Pelican cancelled the flight themselves, and the flight actually went?

Could be.

I’m laughing at all these ‘accommodations’ the airlines are making. They will TRY to keep those middle seats open. (Unless they need them...) They are waiving certain rules. (But usually with an expiration date of a month or two on the waivers.) You can pay anywhere from $39.00 to $89.00 to keep the center seat open but what about the ‘other’ seat. I wonder how they will work around that one. They are granting full refunds even on non-refundable tickets when they cancelled your flight. (But in most cases you have to fight for the refund even though DOT says they have to give it.)

IMHO, the airlines will only do what they are mandated to do or what works best for their bottom line. I get that. They’re a business and the bottom line is what matters.

I remember how they started charging for baggage - because the cost of fuel had spiraled out of sight. Did they rescind the baggage fees now that fuel is bottoming out? AA allowed you to up-grade your coach seats for a fee but they at least they gave you free alcoholic drinks in the bargain. Until they took that perk away, that is, and I wonder how soon they will reinstate it? And JB - widely known for their free checked bag? Until they changed their entire pricing plan and basically took that away, too along with raising their checked bag fees.

It’s all about the bottom line. I cant wait to hear how much relief money they will receive from the government but in the end.

We just got an email from American, telling us there was a schedule CHANGE to our May 8th flight. The CHANGE was the flight was cancelled and they wanted to rebook us for August, when they believed their flights will resume.

I politely told them NO, they cancelled the flight and I wanted a refund. I got them to issue a complete refund because I didn't want a change in flights or a voucher considering what may or may not happen.
