Eric's brother told us over the weekend that he is planning on going to St Croix in June. Is that possible to do at this point? Is he going to have trouble getting off the plane in DC when he comes back? He's supposed to be staying in a condo, although I didn't get specifics. I was just shocked that he was going..

This is for St John but I would imagine the other islands will follow.

OK, stores gradually reopening, but what is the policy regarding people coming in from outside the USVI?

The policy for people arriving in the USVI until June 1 [tentative date] is that no hotel, short term rentals, Airbnb etc can accept new arrivals. So residents or family staying with residents can come to the island, owners of property that is not available for rent can come in and work on the property, business and relief workers can arrive with accommodations.
The June 1 date may be adjusted as we do a soft opening of some businesses starting today 5/4 and assessing the results as time passes.
right now -- "No Mask - No Service" is the rule of the Governor.

LocalSailor and all--We received an email from Eric's brother that his trip to St. Croix on June 21 is a go. Can you give an update as to what the situation is in the USVI now? Are restaurants and bars open? Facemasks required everywhere? I'm afraid he is getting his info from the condo owner, who of course has a vested interest in this matter!

Restaurants and bars are all open, you must have a mask to enter and then you can remove it once inside.
Bar stools are 6’ apart yet you can sit as many people as you want at the tables, hopefully in a few weeks they’ll remove the mask rule.

OK, thanks. And there is no requirement for tourists to self isolate upon arrival?

I had some friends from the states visit St Thomas last week without a problem but that doesn’t mean it’s the same from other countries.

A temperature check by National Guard[??] at airport on arrival, no quarantine if healthy - referred to Dept. of Health for testing if fail - 6/21 masks will *likely* still be required in public spaces and commercial establishments - grocery stores stocked as normal - restaurants opening slowly with restrictions - beaches open -- some boating returning - most stores that survived the shutdown are open - still serious economic struggle with high unemployment and delay in any Stimulus checks or unemployment help.

Worth watching any press conferences here for updates:

Toying with the idea of heading to STJ on 6/19
Janet is retiring after 40 years in the hospital business on the 12th
AND deserves (and needs) some blue water.
Airfare is crazy... but lodging better than normal this time of year.

Will probably make a decision this weekend

Tough call. If it were ME, I'd probably wait a month or two, as since Janet is retiring, you can pretty much go any time? But no one can make decisions for anyone else, or criticize their choices these days.
