We saw one in March and I have personally seen it two other times but two nights in a row would be rare.

Both were really just partial. In this one the left side had clouds on the horizon so the flash was small and one sided. A neighbor caught a nice one a few days ago too. We're about to lose the ability to see it in a week or so for a couple of months then it will come back.

One in our group had never witnessed it before and she was filming and missed it even in doing so. It is pretty amazing to see.

In 23 trips to SXM I have never been able to see the flash. Thanks so much for posting the flash.

Great pictures! Thanks! I can't remember if I've ever seen one on SXM, but seen them several times on cruise ships. Thanks again.

Beautiful, Elaine and Bill.

We’ve come to the island at the very least once a year every year since 1973, or maybe it was ‘74 (any many of those years it was more than once a year....) and I can’t believe I have NEVER had the pleasure of witnessing this in person. At this rate, methinks your pictures are probably as close as I’m gonna’ get so thank you for sharing them for all to enjoy.

Respectfully,

pat

I've been living on a boat for two years and have never seen the flash! Last night's sunset was really spectacular. And it's getting later - it's light right up to about 7 pm now.

I have often found that the period AFTER the actual sunset is the prettiest, for the coloring up of the clouds. Here in Florida, we have a very indirect view of the sunset, with trees in the road, but still a lovely time of day. Sunrise?? Don't often see that, either here, or in SXM!!

I think I saw the sunrise once, when we spent a night in Orient Bay at a friends place. Gosh knows I'm up early enough, just don't have the view.

In all of my years I have only seen one sunset that was spectacular (not on SXM), but none beats an SXM sunset. They always have the best. Thanks for posting the awesome pictures Elaine.

Nice photo! I have seen the green flash about 6 or so times over the years, once in St. Maarten and a few times in Bonaire and a couple other places in the Caribbean but never two sunsets in a row. I like to make it a point to see sunsets over water for that reason, even when the conditions seem right you never know if it'll occur or not. Pretty cool phenomenon.

I have seen the green flash several times over the years but could never photograph it. Great photo. In Feb and March La Vista Beach is ideal for watching sunsets. People gather every night for drinks and sunset. Big cheer when green flash happens.

Nice pictures. A water view does make life a lot better.

You should start a sunset webcam subscription service. $2/sunset. You'd get rich!

As mostly french siders, We got a great glimpse of one at the simpson bay bridge over this past new years trip, it went down fast.

We used to get a lot of sunrises on the Florida Atlantic but it was rarely two of us watching. Usually just the early bird quietly drinking coffee.

Our most perfect sunrises and sunsets have been on cruise ships With zero clouds on the horizon. We have literally watched everybody leave to washup for dinner and we just keep watching. Only place we've seen green perfectly.

WOW!!!!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to post the beautiful sunset. During this "ugly" time we must all take time to appreciate the beauty nature provides. Had to cancel May trip and rebooked for Dec - can't wait.

Wow! Amazing photography ! I am guessing that the photos were taken from the Mullet/Cupecoy area ?
I was fortunate to see a total eclipse of the sun about 2 years ago, from a vantage point in Tennessee.
Totally amazing, as is the green flash. It was well worth the 7 hour drive to Tennessee to see it.
Hope to see a green flash some day !

I have never seen a total eclipse, and hope to one day, but I have seen a green flash, and they are in no ways comparable. Your Eclipse is worth hundreds, maybe thousands of green flashes. The first time I saw one, I thought "that's it?". Having said that, I am out every evening in the tropics seeking the green flash. Maybe if I see enough of them, it'll substitute for a partial eclipse.

Thanks for posting your beautiful photos. I've never seen a green flash in person so it was fun to "share" the experience with all the SXM fans.

In all the years we have been visiting SXM, I only got one photo that shows the green flash. We were sitting in a Lolo in Grand Case when it happened. That's something you never forget! Congratulations of capturing it. It was beautiful. A wonder of nature!
