Interesting, that Curacao got so much more money than SXM. They are right, though, SXM basically has not complied with conditions for receiving funds in the past. Although there is apparently now 'agreement' for SXM politicians to take a 10% pay cut, which has been a condition of the money for a LONG time, there has still not been any vote token to that effect.

In talking local politics with island friends over the years, it seems Curaçao has always been more of a favorite of the 3 islands mentioned. You also know how the local SXM political scene often is.

Curacao has an oil refinery and larger population. Not as big as Aruba" refinery but Aruba has smaller population

OK, that makes sense, Wendell. I never really knew what the population was of the various islands versus each other.

Yes, big difference in populations. Curaçao is approx. 160,000, Aruba is approx. 106,000 and Dutch St. Maarten is approx 41,000. I would imagine this to be a factor as well but a few people I knew from Curaçao always viewed themselves as better overall than St. Maarten people.
