Hi all. I'm hoping for some insights on a good place to stay for one night in St Thomas (a Friday) as our flight will get in really late. We will then be heading over to St John for our stay. thanks!

Are you sure you can't get over there after you land? Red hook to St John ferry runs pretty late. See link.

Trouble might be getting a car at a late hour on St. John. Car ferry stops at sunset and most St. John rental companies are closed at 5 or 6. I'd try one of the hotels next to the airport. Best Western I think brands both. I'm sure others can give exact names.

I believe we won't land until around 11 pm, providing no delays.

I hope folks know the names of the hotels and which is best.

thx!

Also check Island Beachcomber...right next door to Best Western Emerald Beach...not as nice but better rates and fine for 1 night.

Have stayed at the Best Western Emerald Beach, and can recommend it. Only thing to be aware of is that they have no elevators, so if you don't like to climb stairs (my wife has some hip issues) you need to be sure to tell them that you want a first-floor room.

BW Emerald is way over priced for a quick sleep over. You will be looking at $200-300. The BW Carib is walking distance from the airport and at least 50% cheaper. Also look at Windward Passage across the street from the ferry dock. The only time we stay at BW Emerald is when we have ample time to enjoy the beach and pool.

We love the 1829 HOTEL. Quaint, small bar, pool, light breakfast and walking distance to town for shopping and restaurants.

Uh... No. Just checked their website and the prices are about what we paid the last time we were there. Ranging from a low around $150 to a high of $185. I think we paid $170 for our room last November.

That may be a little bit more than the prices at the Best Western Carib Beach, but only a very little bit more.

Uh....yes, those rates are probably for hurricane season. Try booking in January, will be close to $300

As I already said, I was there in November. Late November. That's not hurricane season. $170 per night. What's more, surely you're not trying to tell me that the rates at BW Carib Beach DON'T go up during the high season!?! The difference is still relatively small.

Never mind the fact that, since the OP didn't specify a time, it seems presumptuous to assume that he meant the very highest of high seasons.

Well, I decided to go check and I have to admit that I was wrong. Seems a bit odd to me, but while the price difference between BW Emerald Beach and BW Carib Beach is relatively small right now, it is much larger in January.

So, you pays your money and takes your choice.

To the OP (staying out of the BW pricing discussion): We have the same dilemma in our upcoming mid-November trip. AA changed schedules and is now landing us at STT around 8:30 PM. I looked at the BW and Windward Passage options, but found Bunker Hill Hotel to be best priced for a one night stay. Basic room, about $90. Fine with us, since all we do is arrive, sleep, then catch the next morning's ferry. There are other small hotel options like that in CA. The BW places and WP seemed to be in the mid-100 range or up, after you add in taxes.

Are you bringing any luggage? Before moving here we spent a few nights at Bunker Hill because it is so inexpensive and we didn't know any better.... One of the biggest issues is the really long and incredibly steep stairway to lug your belongs up upon arrival. Not fun!!!
