Anything new at Desert Sun? We'll be there in a few short weeks so just wondering how things were.

We were there July 20 for 2 days. We've never been before , so I can only tell you what we saw. The restaurant has good food.... The grounds are immaculate, and well groomed. We met amazing , fun , and friendly people. Our room was quite decent...clean. We are definitely going back as soon as we can! We had a blast

I have a question, stemming from the fact we haven't been there in at least 3 years. Do they get anything close to full occupancy Monday through Thursday? Or is it still "Deserted Sun" on weekdays?

I heard it's quieter during the week. Glen Eden, and Deanza,has higher occupancy. The big difference is that Desert Sun is more resort and less camping. I met a lot of people there that did both for different experiences. Some of them spent 2 nights there, then were going to Glen Eden for a few nights..

We've been there 4 or 5 times in the last two years. It is definitely less crowded Monday through Thursday, but still there are usually 15 to 25 couples there then. The weekends are much busier--more activities, more day visitors. But the weekdays are great if you enjoy just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Desert Sun.

We prefer Mon-Thurs. We like that it's relatively empty and there isn't a lot of action happening, makes it feel even more exclusive to us. Amazing how fast a day can blow by with just your spouse, a book and the warm sun.

PS (get it?), when I say relatively empty, there are probably another 50 people on the property, but spread out among the 3 pools and large grassy area. Only a couple of times have we felt like there were only a few other couples besides us, and that was midweek AND in the off season.

Many thanks to those who took the time to respond! This really helps! Many forum members, especially those on the left coast, are very much aware of the problems the current owners faced when they took over Desert Shadows/Desert Sun. We purchased a day pass on a warm Sunday in the spring of 2009, and there were barely 50 people (if that) on the property. Then we returned in 2010, this time Monday through Wednesday, and there were perhaps 3 or 4 other couples there. So it sounds like the new owners have made great strides since then.

One other question if I may. One of the reasons we stayed at DS instead of TCI when we were there in 2010 was the full bar on premises---only to discover that it was only open on weekends! Is this still the case?

Your best bet is to call the front desk, they'll be able to tell you what the hours of the Oasis Cafe are for the time you'll be visiting. My recollection is that the Cafe has been open for lunch every day, even weekdays, while we've been there during the high season. We're not drinkers, so I don't know if the bar is run separately, but if the Cafe is open the bar has to be too.

We just got back last week. There for a week. A little slow during the week. The bar restaurant was open everyday from 11:30 to 2 except Tuesday & Wednesday. Dinner on Friday and Saturday. Not a big deal for us. You get a frig and they don't care if you bring your own cocktails to the pool. Just no coolers. We ate dinner and breakfast out. Love the Palm Springs vibe. Must try Pinocchio in the Desert for breakfast downtown.

When wife and I first visited DSR back in 2007 we arrived on a Wednesday. And besides the gardeners and front desk the place was pretty much deserted. If I remember correctly our room was the only one occupied that night. Kind of creepy. As the week went on the place began to fill up.

Since we have now moved to Palm Springs have not been to DSR for a while. (We have a private backyard and pool so we sort of have our own C/O resort here at home.) Regardless wife and I have talked about going for a night or two. The owners have made lots of positive changes and all of the trip reports that I have read recently have been very positive.

we need to do it soon as it is going to start to get a little cold for nudist recreation.

I wouldn't mind a deserted island to myself, but a hotel would be weird as the social aspect is a key part of the draw for most.

We are long time adventurers to DSR. Unfortunately, the rates have gone up in the past few years. We go, for the most part, elsewhere, only because of cost. Just our thing.

Agree with twowinsny about the great Palm Springs vibe. Just returned from two weeks enjoying the sunny 90 degree weather. Have visited Desert Sun and TerraCotta in the past and enjoyed our visits. Have branched out to staying at the numerous boutique resorts that cater to those 21 and over. Very serene and relaxing. Their pools and spas are open twenty four hours and many have private decks(ie Movie Colony Hotel).These properties have discrete clothing optional use ,especially in the evening. They have a very good price point.We especially enjoyed the PS dining opportunities.We use to go to Braco and enjoyed our visits,but with its closing we have found this to be a very good alternative.
