For those not on Facebook here is the text from the post.
"Proud to announce that we are now producing hand sanitizer at the Topper’s Rhum Distillery. We will begin distributing our rum based hand sanitizer to the people of St. Maarten as quickly as possible to assist in slowing this terrible pandemic. Everyone do your part so we can get back to drinking rhum on the beach! Stay safe friends!"

Somehow I find this kind of funny. Does it come in coconut and guavaberry scents? laugh

I find it to be commendable on Topper's part! Hurray for him to be creative and helping out like this. Hand sanitizers are alcohol based so this should work out fine.

There are other distillers here in the US doing this also. I wonder how long it takes for them to get geared up to do this? Wonder if they ship? grin

Any word about Etna releasing a Rhum Raisin hand sanitizer to go with their ice cream?

Great of him to be doing that. So is this gift or at cost to the island people or is this another for profit thing I wonder?

I am sorry...but what difference does it make now if it is profit or not??? There is NO sanitizer on the island...at least there was not last week when we were there. Topper is stepping up.....changing around his equiptment, and fulfilling a very important need on the island. I am sure...if he does sell the stuff to the locals, that they will be more than happy to pay for this. If it is a gift....even more power and thanks to him. Why is it that every move has to be analyzed? I am sure the makers of Purell are raking in more money the last month, that they ever made before. To date, I have not seen any FREE PURELL....any FREE CLOROX WIPES....or any other FREE SANITIZING STUFF being given away in the USA. Since Topper's income from the restaurant has been drastically been cut....since his rum sales business on the island is probably at a very slow pace now with no tourists...why bedgrudge the guy from trying to possibly make an income to support himself and his family!!! Come on people now.....time to come together.

Sorry once again, but there is plenty sanitizer here. Big end cap full of Lysol spray in Carrefour the other day. Clorox wipes too. Don't know where you get your info.

I wish there was plenty here!! duh I asked a worker at Walgreens today if they are getting in any hand sanitizer, and he said that they hadn't gotten any in, in about a month.

My understanding, based on an interview of Topper's wife with Doctor Soc on Island 92, is that they are giving away the hand sanitizer, but just to health professionals, first responders, etc., so they can't be producing a whole lot.

I am not positive but I thought I saw a guy buying 3 bottles at the local Dollar General today. It was either sanitizer or soap and he was excited!

Is there a shortage of hand SOAP? I didn't think so. Have not seen ANY hand sanitizer here, anywhere, since this thing started.

I think around here the pump soap is in short supply, and it appears dishwashing liquid is flying off the shelves as well. We had a big bottle of sanitizer left from one of the dog events last summer. I filled two smaller bottles to take to SXM and we still have about 1/2 of the big bottle left.

Elaine....when we went to Carrefor a couple of days when we arrived...there was NO Sanitzers!!! We shopped at the Cole Bay location. There was PLENTY of toilet paper and paper towels....but when we inquired if they had wipes or Purell...we were told THEY DID NOT...THEY WERE OUT OF IT AND DID NOT KNOW when it will be replenished. This was first hand. Finally were able to ''score'' a package of clorox wipes at the Pharmacy in Simpson Bay. My wife asked if they had.....and the girl took out a package from underneath the Counter. I do not like the inference of being called a lier. I do and always tell it like it is!!!! I am well aware that you are there now...and i am not...but this is not the first time that you have doubted me.!!!

Knowing the situation prior to my leaving for SXM on March 8 Ed, I took a container of wipes with me as they were plentiful here then. Every grocery, dollar store, etc had them and were fully stocked prior to people in the US starting to buy like crazy. Perhaps the store you visited was out but that does not mean it is island wide as you implied. Perhaps you should have taken some with you.

And I agree with CLIFFTOPS.
