LinkA previous guest tested positive after the last cruise. 10 current pax have tested positive and being removed by Japanese coast guard. Remaining 3700 pax will be quarantined for 2 weeks. Does the boat stay docked in Japan or can it at least tool around on the ocean nearby to Yokohama (Tokyo) to give the semblance of a cruise and pull in to tender offload any new patients. I didn't hit me until just now when I was reading something else on this--the pax have ALL been confined to their rooms.. Even those not ill can't leave their rooms. Wonder how they are enforcing that? Can you imagine poor cabin stewards having to yell at anyone who pokes their head out of their cabin door? Can you imagine being confined to an inside cruise cabin for 14 days??? Wow..

Doesn't sound like any fun to me. We always book inside cabins to save $$, and they are usually very small. Can't imagine being stuck in one for an extended time. We usually are in the cabin long enough to bathe, change clothes, and sleep. We don't spend time in there at all.

We do too. Being in lockdown would absolute be horrible. Like prison. I would think they would have to find away to disembark into a better quarantine. I know this isn’t good but neither is the flu we all just got over. What about job and family impacts (births, deaths, funerals). Many probably wouldn’t cruise again.
We have many friends who will never take their first cruise because they think the boats arenillness/norovirus incubation centers. This won’t help my argument that we have never gotten sick.

Wow, I feel sorry for anyone booked on a cruise right now, not just the ones directly affected by this, as everyone has to be on eggshells that they won't be allowed to dock anywhere. This is really going to hit the cruise industry as a whole for a loop for quite a while.

The sad part is cruise ships are the cleanest places we have stayed anywhere.
What about other resorts, i guess the airports have to catch the people from coming into the country.

Cruise ships are easy villains to blame, but you're probably right, airports are a much bigger danger from this thing. It just keeps getting bigger..

Not good, the number of people confirmed to have it doubled overnight to 130.
If i am on that boat, i’d be wondering whether ships air handling is bringing me fresh air and be demanding an expensive respirator to filter my air and 10,000 clorox wipes.
I’d demand to be isolated somewhere else.
If the number doubles again, there will be a mutiny to get off.

I agree. I wonder what type of Medical Staff they have onboard to care for the ill. It has to be overwhelming them whomever it is.

My understanding is that anyone that is ill is being removed from the ship.

Sailed many Princess boats, many have hospitals vice medical centers with operating rooms. I’d rank them above the other lines. But I’m sure they are doing their best but maybe being put in a tent with a subzero sleeping bag in a Mt Fuji lodge might be better isolation.

Diamond Princess corona virus cases up to 174.
Letting elderly and chronically ill off.
Inside passengers get 90 minutes on deck a day.
Indian crew appealing to Indian govt to get them off before they get sick.
Reportedly, they are only taking temperatures not testing everybody. It would seem to me to be smart to swab everybody so they know. Crazy waiting game.
One of the quarantine officers has cone down with it and they were only wearing mask/gloves not full suits and face shields.
How are they keeping the ships air virus free? Seems impossible. Plus hong kong suspecting it can transmit threw sewer pipe gases.
Johns Hopkins medical center saying this quaranteen is unethical.

Those poor people. My understanding is that there are not enough test kits to test everyone, so no way to test everyone, even if they wanted to. I do feel most sorry for the crew, I guess. They are forced to associate with other crew members in close quarters and several crew members have come up positive. No way to protect themselves.

Wow, 218 cases now. Several new cases every day.. Interesting that they are now saying that older men with pre-existing conditions are more susceptible to the disease.

https://wgnradio.com/2020/02/14/qua...er-linda-levell-joins-the-roe-conn-show/Link is to a WGN radIo call with lady on the Diamond Princess for what is going on 4 weeks, the last 9 days in quarantine. Very calm and cool about it but says Princess has been extraordinary. Princess is our favorite and we could see them being as smart as possible under circumstances. Separately, I’ve read everyone is getting a full refund of everything including cruise booked and non cruised book transportation before/after and a future credit equivalent which is above and beyond for what is clearly not a company controllable event. All drinks and so forth are still being served and bills are given for accounting purposes but all accounts have been zeroed out. On the flip side there is a Brit who says their positive patience has worn thin and they are begging Richard Branson to help arrange a chartered Virgin jet to get them to England with no flight attendants and only packaged food. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/wor...-ship-plea-richard-branson-a4362296.html

Wow, will do some reading over on Cruise Critic to see what's going on, as to how his tune has changed so thoroughly from yesterday.

This cruise ship is one big petri dish and the passengers are involuntary lab rats. What a nightmare! The super carrier who brought the COVID-19 on the boat disimbarked. Where? There were many still healthy on the boat till they locked them in their cabins. It is a great study to find out more about this pandemic but This situation has no good outcome.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ws...diamond-princess-cruise-ship-11581733214State Department working to evacuate US citizens feom the ship if not showing any symptoms. Will take them to Travis near Sacramento or San Antonio. Probably a wise move for all countries who can do so for to get sick in a foreign land with foreign medical practices may be disconcerting. Fight it at home. Plus 2000 passengers given iphonesI guess so they can facetime or a consolation gift. This boat will have sone stigma but Im confident this is no different than any other outbreak we used to hear about more frequently and Id be glad to sail on her. Especially for low fares, sorry im a bargain traveler.

Well, I can't read more than the beginning of the story because it's the WSJ, but I think probably at this point, this is a good idea.

thanks. I did find that story later. Interesting, at this point, the US State Dept has said that if US citizens DON'T take the charter flight, they will not be let back into the country? To me, that leaves no other option, although Matthew Smith says he's not going to do it?

Remember the cruise ship that was turned away from five ports and finally docked in Cambodia. An American passenger from that cruise ship has now been diagnosed psitive for COVID-19

The cruise ship proved that the quarantine did not work when one out of six became infected and two died
The numbers coming out of China are being covered up and this is spreading globally.
