Google Maps definitely does and you can download offline maps so you don’t burn through your data plan.

Waze is mostly a traffic app and an offline map won't help in that area

Waze, Google Maps, and the like all require an internet connection to work. Google Maps lets you download the map so that you don’t need an internet connection while in the car.

I’m replying to OPs question of what’s does this mean. Google Maps does work in SXM. I never tried Waze, but it owned by Google so maybe.

Ok...connected to Waze at SBR..it did work and had my location spot on....used wifi not data. If in the car you would have to have a decent data package

If in the car you would have to have a decent data package Or you could download the offline Google Maps just before you leave home. (The maps expire after a certain length of time) How to instructions here : https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6291838?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en Android and Apple instructions are on same page / separate tabs
After every Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF.

Waze is a traffic app.....Google maps are, well, maps and, downloaded and used without a signal, do the job as maps but not as a traffic tool

I tried it today away from SBR wifi....in Phillipsburg and Grand Case. It does not work with out a data (internet/cell) connection ....so if you have a phone that can be used all over Island without wifi then IN THEORY it would work...but....it would need data from MANY other connected Waze users to produce a traffic report ..one or two moving users won't tell you anything...Otherwise just use downloaded Google maps for maps not traffic

We used it for directions, as we were lost. I didn’t have an international plan on my phone.

I have an international data plan on my phone and have been using Waze on St Martin for several years. Works well.

Another option is a great app called "Maps.me".....I use it in Paris all the time and it works great. It will download the maps automatically from the area you are in. Great for walking in cities but also useful when travelling . No data connection needed for use (just for initial country map download)

$10 per 24hr period, nothing if you don't use it

Yup...but ten bucks for a map is a bit steep unless you have other plans for usage. Downloaded maps need no connection

Forgot about Maps.me and found I have SXM already downloaded. So just fire her up when there regardless if you have WiFi or not?

No wifi or data connection needed at all once you have the maps downloaded. Pretty neat app especially for big cities in Europe.....
