I'm trying to decide whether it makes sense to take a 5 pm flight (leaving STT) vs a 2;20 flight? Will I actually get any more time on island? It looks like the only boat I could get (for either flight) from STJ to CA is the 11AM? Otherwise it's Red Hook on a Noon boat in order to accommodate the 30/40 minute cab ride. Does that sound right?

The 11 am ferry will be a close call , for the 2:20 flight and Very Bad if that is an American Airlines Flight -- any delays in ferry schedule or C&I in STT at dock will be a problem.
The STT airport can also be crowded with people as quite a few flights leave at the same time and C&I then TSA can have LONG lines.

You should check the times and ferries available - https://bestofbvi.com/bvi-ferry-schedules/?from=St-Thomas&to=Tortola

Good Luck.

Thanks - I think I can take a 1:00 to Red Hook and comfortably get the 5:00 p.m. Does that sound right? (Delta if it matters)

Delta is fine, Red Hook Ferry timing looks good, better safe at 5pm than rushed on an earlier flight if the times work for you,

I agree with LocalSailor. STT defies logic and its best to error on the side of caution. The C&I lines can be epic during peak times.

Ended up taking the 2:00 to Red Hook. Grabbed a cab and made it in time to have my last VI Summer at the gate.
