Interesting article...compared the US airlines in nine categories...said how Delta has made it a corporate effort to totally eliminate involuntary bumping of passengers (9 vs 15,000+ for AA) and offers significant incentive (cash) for voluntary bumps....

I don't think I can cut/paste the article here since it's subscriber content

No surprise that Delta tops the list. I have only had one issue with Delta, and that involved the staff at JFK once when we were returning from SXM a few years ago. We got stranded overnight in JFK, but when we eventually got home I e-mailed their customer service department describing what we went through and they apologized and did us right. When something goes wrong or when awful customer service occurs, many people deal with it and say "that's just the airlines being themselves", but the better ones do want to hear from you (that's what they told us at Delta). It's not frivolous complaining, but feedback that airlines need to do things better in the future.

Delta is fortunate that they never adopted the 737Max. AA, not so much.

boucharda--correct, you can't copy and paste it. I was pretty shocked at that number of only 9 involuntary bumps by Delta.

Yup...the Max kinds screwed AA in the cancellation category BUT Southwest, who has the most 737 Max aircraft, is in a similar boat and tied for 2nd overall

American since the merger could careless about the passenger and loyal customers the way they use there FF there is no reason for me to be part of that program . The last ten years have changed them from a very good company to a piss poor airline it’s to bad , but that’s the way I and many more feel

The labor action by the AA mechanics didn’t help either.

As an aside here, Whats going on with Delta? I’ve read and heard of several safety mishaps just this week - one of which actually involved a returning SXM flight at JFK. That’s more than I’ve noticed with any airline in a long time, but then, I guess I usually try NOT to hear about airplane mishaps. I’d far prefer to complain about flight changes rather than actual mishaps.

Respectfully,

pat

I saw a "near collision" between two Delta flights five days ago at JFK but that was an ATC issue

I have a crap ton of AA and DL miles and consistently for the last several years AA availability and mile cost/award is way way better than Delta 1 year away and 3-4 weeks away.

Got RT to SXM less than 30 days out for 15k and $80ish bucks a ticket on AA web special..

Never see DL anywhere close.

AAs issues are all labor driven. They got new planes, lots A320s. Times are good. But MX parrwork slowdowns causing ripple effects. Dont know much about their cause for why they have been doing it.

Luckily no issues on our flights this last trip.

I also have a crapload 0f AA miles and, yes, the availability of flights is higher but so are the additional charges for the "free" flight...and are the possibilities of not actually flying the time/route you bought

I have used AA miles only twice in the last few years and both times they got messed up with the last one from SXM being a doozy with a few intentional lies thrown at us as reasons

I will use them only if I have no concern when I get to my destination or back home

To Pat... the answer is that WE just booked our first flight on Delta. We're known to be the ones that if anything happens it happens to us lol. Murphy's Law!

We flew Delta in Nov. to/from SXM and no problems at all other than a slight delay leaving DAY due to some maintenance paperwork.

We also flew Delta in November/December, but were forced to check our carry-on bags in Raleigh. We were told that the bins were full, but when we boarded, the bin above our seats was completely empty. After having gone to all the effort of packing carry-on only for a three week trip, it was highly annoying. But, Delta got us there on time, and home only an hour later than scheduled; much better than our usual AA experience.

Hopefully they checked the bags for free. With the turmoil with AA, Delta is the only viable option many people have. I am taking AA down in March and Delta back (due to pricing & sxchedule) and I am still concerned AA is going to mess with the schedule.
