Does anyone know if there is any progress being made between the Dutch side and the French side about working to bring Oyster Pond back to it beautiful state? We own at OBBR and always have marina view to enjoy the lights from the boats and restaurants from our balcony at night before we call it a goodnight. Either way we will still be enjoying our balcony again very soon. Thanks for any info. Bob & Nancy

The last I heard was that France and The Netherlands were suppose to be meeting in December to decide on borders. Have not heard anything recently, which is why Captain Olivers remains in a "heap".
Next SXM visit -November 2023. Also January 2024.

Norm--totally separate from the question of Captain Oliver's, what about cleaning up all the boat wrecks still there? Do you know if there is a dispute between French and Dutch side as to responsibility for cleaning them up?

Both governments are in turmoil. Don't expect anything any time soon.

Elaine--I could be wrong, often am, but the border dispute regarding Captain Oliver's I thought was supposed to be decided by people in Europe, not local governments?? (...which is not to say that it will be decided any time soon either...)

It would be such an improvement to the area if the rebuilding of the marina and hotel/ restaurants would begin. I am so sad not because of Irma but the slow progress after Irma. I miss so much now when visiting.

Thank you all for replying. All of your thoughts are basically what I was thinking but was hoping that there might have an article that I might have missed. We will still enjoy the island and OBBR and keep hoping for movement on Oyster Pond cleanup. Once again thank you all and Happy Holidays to all.
