Just received an email from the owner of Tijon's that said the small beach bars on Orient were started to rebuild. Has anyone seen any new building happening on Orient? I assume he means up near where Pedro's used to be?

See this thread

Link to Daily Herald story, as well as a picture of mine from October. Not sure what has been happening since then.

Anyone have an update since the middle of October?

If you go to the Orient Bay Village Life Facebook page pictures are posted from today showing what appears to be significant construction activity and permit pictures for Orange Fever, Le String and Chez Leandre. There was another comment that stated two other spots had activity with no permits posted and activity where Kakao use to be.

How are those pictures different than the pictures I posted in the thread linked above?? Most people here aren't members there.

I do wonder what would happen if you posted a link there to TTOL??

The main difference is that they show continuing activity from the pictures you posted back from October. I am not very tech savvy so I wouldn't know about posting links.

We were there a week or so ago staying at La Playa and spoke to Luc at Orange Fever a few times.

He has chairs out for rent and is serving some drinks. He is working on the Orange Fever bar most week days, The kitchen will be in a container so that it can be easily moved. The container is on site and they will be encasing it so that it looks nice

Luc hopes to open in December, but that depends on the Collectivité getting utilities to the sites and they pretty much have not delivered on any of their promised dates, so who knows.

We also spoke to a young man who hopes to open one of the concessions near Orange Fever and he said that he had been given an opening date of December 8. I am highly skeptical this date will happen, but that's what he has been told.

There has been some work done on the other sites (Chez Leandra), but I think that a lot of the folks are waiting until the Collectivité delivers on their promises before doing much more work.(That is strictly my opinion, with no concrete information to back it up .)

Ted.

Thanks for the report. So, despite the news article, the utilities are not yet in place?? How surprising. Not. I saw pipes sticking up out of the ground, but had no idea what I was looking at. I was certain that the bathrooms were not operational as of October.

After 20 some odd years visiting the island nothing the Collectivite does, or does not do, would surprise me.

So happy Luc is back! We miss Orange Fever. Hope they have food when we are there in January!
